hey i need to get a lift/stand for my bike i need to take the tires off and it will have to be supported buy the stand for a day or so and i have alot of work to do on it, so i was wondering what kind of stands you guys use. i've seen them from hydraulic to these things that as it seems you just step on to lift the bike (don't look to good to me). i was just looking for advice before i waisted money on junk. well once again any help would be great, thanks guy

GRU

why don't you use the centerstand that's on the bike?

fmikex

i didn't think it was ment to hold the bike up for long. i am having a guy change both the tires for me and i am not sure how long it will stand for,i am doing them one at a time. i just spent about $600 getting this '89 together and i would hate for my dumb ass to let it fall and have things break,i seen a stand on ebay for about $60 hydrualic i just wanted some advice before i bid on it,or not bid

GRU

if you do a lot of stuff on the bike where you need it to be off the ground then you could buy the lift but if you just need to replace tires and little things then use the center stand and then you can take off anything off the rear...when you take off the front tire just use a pice of wood or a block to rest the front forks...
i had my GS on the centerstand for a month and nothing happend to it, so you should be fine

if you are changing them one at a time the centerstand is perfect. We have one of the Sear's motorcycle/atv stands which is real nice for workin on bikes. But for our GS's you have to take the exhaust off to use it.

edit: sorry I didn't realize he was postin at the same time.

i plan to take off the front off first, put a jack under the frame to support up front and then pull the rear off and get some fresh rubber installed.

i am lazy i got to get it done.

i'll agree with the center stand and either block under the exhaust or remove exh and block under frame

I have a hydraulic lift..hand pump opperated. 8)
i usually use a jack and the center stand....if worried i use tie down suspended from the rafters for safety feeling
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

I had my SV suspended from the ceiling joists for several weeks while I was swapping the front forks and the GS had its rear hanging for several days while I worked on the swing arm.
Common sense in not very common.
