Here is my foolproof method.

1.  Remove old taillight.

2.  Connect wires in proper sequence.

3.  Turn on bike and test taillight for function.

4.  Have a crazy misconception that the taillight is not as bright as it should be when the brake is applied.

5.  Swap the white and black wires.

6.  Turn on bike and watch smoke billow out of new tail light.

7.  Start shopping for a new taillight assembly.

Have fun!!

If you havent realized, this is what I did to my lovely GS last night.  I am now in need of a new taillight!  I am not sure if I want to try another Led Taillight, or just buy a new wiring harness for the taillight and go back to the stock config?

Doh, don't tell me you cut the wires for the stock lights... should have spliced the new assembly in :(  Sure, you might never use the stock one again, but you give whoever you sell the bike to the option.  Also saves you from buying more stuff after screwups like that ;) They've got nifty little snap in wire splitters at Radio Shack.
