im bout to upgrade my airfilter with k&n... is one dual better one 2 single better?? can i get the part number for those?? and can i use car spark plugs on my gs?? or is there special ones?? and can i get a part number for the spark plugs also? thanks guys...

Kerry

If your bike is still stock, you won't want to switch to the K&N "pod" filters without rejetting the carbs and upgrading the exhaust system as well.

If you're just looking for a reusable filter, the in-airbox K&N replacement is the SU-5589.  See the pictures at http://www.bbburma.net/K&N_AirFilter.htm

As for the spark plugs, see the thread Spark Plugs.. do i have the right one?

EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net.

oh... i need to rejet for changing just an air filter too??? i about to buy v&h exhaust system... so if i get the k&n pod air filter and the exhaust... what stage jet kit would i need? thanks!

Kerry

To clarify - if you keep the stock jetting and pipe (like I have) then you need to use the restrictor with the In-Airbox Replacement filter.

As for which kit you need for the setup you're contemplating, I'll leave that one for the guys who've done the same mod.  You may find that buying a jet kit is overkill; lots of folks on the board use a "homegrown" formula and buy only the jets they need, plus some washers for raising the needle in the carbs.

Srinath will be along any moment to help you out, I'm sure.  And as long as he doesn't try to talk with a candy bar in his mouth, you might be able to understand him!  (Sorry Srinath - couldn't resist.  Especially after having experienced Karnataka for 2 weeks now!)

Yea Kerry BTW we (India) have disowned that area... I think it belongs to US now...
K&N lunch box pod... goes over both carbs in place of the airbox. Need just 1 and it has 2 carb openings... is part number RU-2970 and thye best price for it was from usdieselparts.com.
V&H full system or slip on will do the same thing... either is fine... and some others have got it cheap here... there's someone who can get it for dealer price or somehitng... very cheap compared to retail. Check older posts.
The jetting is 150 mains (large 8mm dia round mikuni jets), 40 pilots (non bleed mikuni) 1 or 2 #2 washers under each needle and air screw set to 3 turns out. That's the starting point... usually it works fine... except the air screw on various bikes needs adjustments. I leave the float level un touched... Stock should be at the top of the bowl as per U tube method... and I leave it there.
Cool.
Srinath.
