I've been looking into getting a gsxr 750 muffler to weld onto my GS.  Then I thought, if I'm gonna weld it, (not concerned with bolt-up or so called slip-on) what's stopping me from using any muffler I can get my hands on, or for that matter, from putting dual pipes on (granted I may have to fab some flanges or brackets...)?   So do certain mufflers just not work with the GS (difficult to get gas/air mix right?...), or are some pipes listed for use on the GS simply because they "match", (ie, bolt up or slip), and require no welding?   I found some cheap pipes on ebay, but I don't wanna weld one on if I'm gonna have to turn around and cut it off cause I can't set my carbs right...  Any suggestions, experiences, mistakes that would help me out... :dunno:

basicly the cans that you can but specialy for the GS don't need any major mods...they just bolt on

i put a gsxr 750 can on my bike but i had to get a longer pipe ( i just cut the stock can and added a bent pipe) then made a flange that fit's the gsxr can bolts and welded the flange to the pipe i added....my welds broke because i didn't expect so much vibration to get to the canister so if you're gonna weld it, make sure it's welded really good

Personally I would avoid most supersport pipes... the sizes of the stock GS header pipe and the hole on the exhaust is very different... it can be done, but I think you'll have way to many issues (like superlean jetting...).

Anyway... in theory you could mount any exhaust you want, however, the end result might seriously suck!  I'm pretty sure you could build an exhaust from avaialble parts from companies like Supertrapp/Kerker and Vance and Hines...
