Rattle can lacquer comes off with gas

OK Rattle can paint = nightmares... Ok I paint my powder coated tank... cos its powder has gone sorta flat black when gas hits it... so I am trying to clear coat it... and lacquer when I tested it... worked fine...... and it even dries up nice and hard. Ok I am happy untli gas hits it... and the damn thing comes off... So its soluble in gas... those creeps should write it on the damn can before I put in all the effort and $$ into the thing.

How old is your paint Srinath ? dont forget you are looking at least a full month curing time on the laquer

It was 1 day old... but why a month... the can didn't say that. The first one I tried was over 2 years old and still came off on my 91 tank and body... was there when I got it... and he gave me the cans that were used on it.... but the one I tired recently was ~1 day.

i think you said US paint maybe different to UK paints , but thick layers of laquer protect the coloured surface , after the laquer has cured properly it turns very hard usually 30+ days , if the guy before hadnt applied enough laquer then that would explain your paint stripping away with gas , by the same token dont forget that standard polishes contain petroleum distillates and if the laquer layers were not thick enough than that in turn would strip paint too

OK that's possible... I doubt the old one was ever polished though... ever... but very light spray of clear... well that;s possible... cos clear is what runs very very easy... so our painting instructions say... very light coats and many of it. Maybe he missed the many coats part. Anyway I am not waiting 30 days for this thing... I might just spray the thing with a HVLP... now lacquer in that has a hardener added and will cure very quick right... Anyway I'll check with the paint dudes...

Also Can lacquer be used to paint plastic... Does it flex after it cures... to be good on plastic. I didn't care I was painting metal but in any case... just want to know.

To be honest i have never had an issue with spraying plastics , yes you have flex ( when taking off or puttin on ) but i have never had my paint crack , given that all previous attempts have been rushjobs and not a half way decent job as my current paint , i think there is X amount of inherent
flexibility in the rattle can paints , although please check with your contact as i would hate to give you a bum steer

OK I try enamel next... well back to testing the bloody thing... It shouldn't eat my powder coating.
