Well I took my carb apart yesterday and cleaned the heck out of it using carb cleaner.  So I put everything back together.  Crank it over this morning takes FOREVER, which is understandable.  Finally got it turned over it's been sitting for about 5 mins, it doesn't need full choke which I've never gotten it to do that before.  Now about every 30 seconds it struggles to say idling and any time I give it gas it just dies.

I turned the choke up and it revs higher and also makes a popping sound, crack and still idles. Again when I give it gas it dies.

I let it sit for about 2 mins.  It started making some bad smells, and some smoke.

Would it hurt it to sit there untill it clears out all the carb cleaner stuff in it or could there possibly be something else wrong other then carb cleaner?

Thanks,
Matt

Did you use carb cleaner on the floats? It can damage the plastic.
Common sense in not very common.

I did not use it on the floats, I took those out.

well the carb cleaner is highly combustable [don't ask how I know....] it could be possible for it to combust before it enters the combustion chamber....This would defently cause a loud crack sort of like a backfire smoke?? not sure on that. It could also be that the cleaner worked so well that the engine is really rich, try adjusting the idle needle [ya that big knob inbetween in the carbs]...

I hope too that the cleaner didn't desinigrate any o-ring seals or internal plastic componets. Carb cleaner in a can is VERY strong stuff.

Ok I started it and i'm giving it 15 mins to work itself out. And if it doesn't I guess I'll take it apart again  :(

Wish me luck.

well it's stil idleing adjusting the idle screw did little, it's at about 3-4k now, it dropped to 2k turning the screw but shot up to 3-4k again.  It's still idling right now but no change.  I give it gas it dies again.

Matt

I made sure the jets were tight when I put it back together.

well I shut her off. She finally started to take some gas but i noticed the left exhaust outlet was white so I turned it off right away, things getting to hot.  Still making a nasty smell.

Well I dunno whats wrong.  I'm going to let her sit and then take the carb out again.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Well, if it idles OK but you can't give it gas... maybe the slides are not jumping?  You could take off the airbox or pods or whatever, and see if the slides jump freely.  If you added washers to the needles, and they are small enough to fit in the hole-shaped depression at the bottom of the slide, but big enough to get stuck, then that could keep the slides from sliding.

Also, do the usual tests for vacuum leaks: spray WD40 at the vacuum take-offs for both carbs, and at the unions between the engine and carbs, and carbs and airbox.

I guess it would also die when you give it gas if the fuel tank petcock weren't "ON" just right, or if the fuel hose got pinched under the tank or airbox.  There might juuuust enough fuel flowing to idle most of the time.
You cannot escape our master plan!

Ok I took the tank and airbox out.  I turned the bike on watched the carb flappy things lol.  They were both working don't know what im' looking for then tried to give it gas and it died again.  Then I noticed  a bit of smoke comming out of the right one? is that normal?

Matt

I'm goign to take out the carbs again and clean it again who knows.
