I was just wondering about what resale you guys think i might be able to expect after about a year's worth of good riding a new gs (assuming it stays in perfect condition). The reason i ask is that im trying to justify spending 5k+ on a motorcycle. I want to be able to get at leas 3.5k back (still...assuming all goes well)

Probably about $3-3.5K final price private sale, judging from what I've seen around here lately.  A little more if its in very clean condition, has low miles, and you find a seller that's looking for that.  First year of ownership usually has a lot of depreciation, keep the bike a while and enjoy it (will hold resale value well after the first year or two).

If you're looking for a good learning bike, get a late 90s or 2000 bike.  If taken care of those will hold their value for a year really well.... believe me, I know ;)

If you buy new you'll take a bigger depreciation hit over the first year... then again, you'll get those pretty plastic pieces... drool
