riding pants

can anyone recommend some good, casual riding pants that don't look like riding pants?  hopefully something not too hot since i do most of my riding in warm weather.

i'd recommend the joe rocket pheonix pants. they're still definitely riding pants, but they sit well and don't look like snow pants. they're mesh as well, so they're very well ventilated. they also have heavier cordura on the knees, hips, and butt to protect your contact points in a crash. they're very comfortable to wear.

if i have a 32" inseam, would it make sense to get these in the 34" inseam so the legs won't ride up as much when i'm on the bike?  as of now most of my properly fitted pants end up about 1-2" above my boots when i'm riding.

I have some Frstgear Mesh-Tex pants.  I like them alot.  Very comfortable and cool.

I own some Joe Rocket Hustler pants.  They're probably meant for Cruisers, but they work great for me.  I wouldn't wear them on long rides, because they have no armor whatsoever, but they're cool (fully perf'd) and fit over my jeans perfectly.

yeah... those are more or less what i'm looking for, though they don't seem to offer that much extra protection.  any other similar suggestions?  i'd like something i can wear while riding, and then wear around wherever i may have ridden to without looking like a jerk.

Aerostich has some canvas pants made for tree workers w/two layers of canvas and soft armor at knees.

i just found these and they look better than any of the other ones i've seen.  fabric is 14oz denim with kevlar/cordura reinforcement AND armor.  they have a jeans and cargo pants/khakis.  the khakis lower legs zip off to turn into shorts.  i'm going to give a ring and see if the armor can be fitted to the khakis.  it looks like from the website, the armor goes with the jeans only.

i also saw "bohn adventure pants" which look like spandex pants with armor you can wear under regular pants.  those would be good, but don't seem to offer much abrasion protection.

I believe most or all bikerwear companies take the "bent knee" postition into consideration and cut their pants a couple inches longer so they fit well while riding.

Aussie site, though there is a US distributor. I have a pair of the sport jeans, with the Knox armour in them (there was a deal on them at the time). Kevlar reinforced rear, sides and knee sections. The Knox armour just velcroes to the kevlar in the knees, so you can take it out when washing.
The cargo pants are very cool too, I'll be getting a pair to complement my jeans.
Generally nobody notices the stitching for kevlar and hardly anyone has noticed even with the pads in. Mine look like just loose-fit jeans.
Support was really good from the guys here in Aus, when I ordered a size too small I just sent it back and they sent me a new pair (without me having to pay for postage back!) which was great.
A lot of guys here in Aus use them, particularly here in Brisbane and further north due to the heat. But being jeans, they are still pretty good as we get colder. I use a cheap pair of cordura pants over them when it gets wet.
Also, if you do a search, you should find comments by guys crashing in them, who swear by their protection. In fact, they've had to tell emergency teams where to cut through them as they can't cut through the kevlar with trauma shears.

The armor would velcro to those as well, right?  Hmmm, that's an idea...

Yep, the kevlar is sort of a loose knit, and the armour has only the 'hook' side of the velcro. Sticks in very securely.

The armour from the J55 Western Jeans is compatible with the cargo
pants.
Unfortunately, due to a slight re-style of the cargo's, they will not be
available until later on in the season, maybe June or July.
