im from england and my bike is restricted to 33bhp. Do you guys have any idea of how they restrict it and what kind off difference is there between a restricted one and a non restricted one.

hi mate also from UK it's resticted in the carbs by the main jet slide, needle clip moved from 3rd to 2nd grove and spring, and there is a big diffrence, once u put a aftermarket exhaust and get the air filter and jetting sorted.

ok could you explain in abt more detail and do you know how to remove the restricter, i ant really into taking stuff apart that much. how hard is it to do.

right first off how many years have u been riding lol ;) and it's quite easy if u have a manual, and have the orignal parts that got taken out when u had the bike restricted.

Careful, though. What year was your bike produced? There have been various methods used, and how to "open her up" depends on year of mfg.

Early models were restricted by limiting main jet slide travel (with a stop in the cover), needle depth and main jet size. (The latter is quite important, as changing only the other two parameters will give you a bike that's running too rich.) Which main jet is right for your bike also depends on the year of mfg.

Later years were restricted by throttle plates in the air ducts.

All in all, this probably is a question that you better ask in the uk forum, as restriction is not much of a topic in the US ;)
(I know it's a constant issue on gs-500.de)

cause i live in the united states           do i have to be worrried about my bike being restricited??        cause i havent tested the speed out yet to see if it is        it just seems    it can very high in rpms

the us bikes are not restricted

I thought they all would have a spacer in the slide keeping it from opening up beyond 1/2 way or 3/4 or as much as they want it to.

i am from the UK - mine is restricted by 2 washers that sit inside the carb to restrict fuel flow. - Pretty obvious once u remove the carbs :thumb:

You sure you did everything? Dunno about UK, but in Germany there are various methods for restricting tohse puppies.

The early ones were restricted by stops that limited slide travel, positioning of the needle ( the clip was set on a different groove)
AND LARGE MAIN JETS.

The latter were often not changed when amateurs opened them up, resulting in poor characteristics.

Later models were restricted by throttling the air ducts.

Yet later there were holes in the slides, limiting the buildup of vacuum in the membrane chamber.

But all of them had different main jets, AFAIK.

if he had the 2 washers in the carbs - that is the entire kit.  The 2 washers are an after market restriction, but when it is restricted by different jets that is from the factory.

So if you took out the 2 washers that should be it :thumb:

If you post somthing on WWW.GS500E.CO.UK which is a british site (shameless plug there  :P ) you could probably get more info on restrictions, as this is mainly american where restriction is not required (damn i wish i was back in america, miss my friends :( )
