Had really bad wind here today. It knocked my bike over at work. Broke the bar end. Scratched the engine cover BAD. :x  Does anybody know if Suzuki still sells the guards for the older(2000) models? Would bikebandit have them? My poor bike :( , I might even replace the cover. I don't know if the center stand would have helped or not. :dunno: From now on, I'm going to park next to a building so it can't go over. :thumb:

Sorry, no clue on the engine guards.

Did you see it fall over? I didn't think it was possible for just the wind to blow it over, unless we're talking about some serious hurricane wind.

I bought guards for my 97 from the Suzuki dealer and have now put them on my 02 model.  Think they should all be the same from 89 thru 02.

From Suzuki 2002 site accesories:

Engine Case Guards*

*Not for use with Spoiler.

GS500 1999-2002
99950-70104
MSRP $49.95

That's the same part number as the one on the guards I bought for the 97.

RonAyers has them-

You guys are too good!  Thanks particularly to you gsjack. :thumb: I'll probably go with the Suzuki case guards. They don't look bad at all in the pics I've seen. The plastic cover is badly scraped. Is the inner metal cover solid or could a leak develop through the plastic one? Also, how does the plastic attach?

Thanks again

Ed

Oh yeah, the wind was bad. Probably 50mph anyway. Plus it was on the side stand.

them factory case guards are great.  I just pulled the race bike out of the trailer and cleaned the dirt off of it.   the case guard took a lickin' but saved the engine!!!!!!!
well worth the $50 odd bucks!!!!

I think I'll replace the plastic cover on the engine. It's the gernerator side(right side). Can the plastic logo peice be replaced seperately? And, how is it removed? I replaced the bolt in the bar end and got it back on. Bike seems to run fine. Bars didn't bend. The Tach light didn't come back on until I'd rode about 10 minutes. :dunno: And the first few times I wound it out to 9,000 or so the speedo light would flicker. :dunno: All seems well now.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

That plastic Suzuki emblem is self adhesive type, just peel off backing and stick on.  Old one should peel off easy enough.  I got one from dealer for about $13, but RonAyers has for $9.06.  Use the parts Fiche at RonAyers site to get Suzuki part numbers and discount prices.  It's part number 68233-01D00.  Bike Bandit also has Fiche, but they use own part numbers and not Suzuki numbers.  If only getting emblem, shipping charge would make it more than local dealer.

The case guards are really low porfile, which i like.  They were easy to install and hopefully i won't need  them. If ou bomb at ron ayers, try

Now I know how the bike got the much more minor scratches on the pipe and the plastic cover. It probably fell over for the previous owner too. The GS sits rather straight on it's side stand making it an easy tip over. The parking lot at work is rough anyway, but they left alot of gravel on the asphalt after it was paved making it even worse. That's what it fell onto. The engine cover is scratched too but I think that replacing the plastic might be enough for looks. 8)

OK my guards are getting made soon enough... and I am starting with 1 set for Davipu... cos he doesn't need bolts. Bolts are $$$. But he has them at work. Anyway the case guards in werase's crash worked well... My pics must still be in that link I posted... The suzuki case guards are 1 inch dia but thin steel tubing... mine are over 2 times the wall thickness and are stainless steel, but are 3/4 inch dia. Cos in a crash these usually wear through in case of sliding... anyway I still need to find long bolts... which is what killed that project... lemme start looking again... if I find them its getting made and fast... cos all the stuff is there just bolts need to be sourced.
For the right side round case... I have one made out of billet, massive and strong and nice if blocky looking. ... for $50+ shipping say $5-$10 anywhere in US . I only have 1... and if you want it send $$$ ($57 to 62 depending on where you are) via paypal and an address and its yours.
Cool.
