The last lot of Pontiac GTO's were Holden Monaros.

Dunno why they used Monaros, guess it saved them having to design a V8 coupe, plus the motor & gearbox are from GM America.

Maaaate We have cyclones, not typhoons, our toilets flush the right way and we dont have no stinkin chevy's.

Even though Holden is part of GM they dont have a habit of bringing Yankee cars down under. The majority of Holdens are home designed and the ones they do rebadged are usually Vauxall of Opels (european) and Isuzu (Japanese).

Which is also a good explaination why the GTO handles so poorly.  The Holden's suspension was designed for Austrailia's crappy roads, so it is beefy, like a truck.   It needs a re-design.
