I am making case guards... Soon, have steel and making the bends right now... but the other crap has hit the fan, yesterday the rain and my vulcan sale and subsequent delivery killed my night... They are 1 inch OD, Thick wall... like 3/16 wall and thick end plate with stainless steel bolts... I am making a batch of 25, with ~ $40 as my target price... and I will get them powdercoated. Cos 25 will be a decent number to make a batch for the powder coaters. The thinks wear out in a crash and slide... they just blow through the wall... that's its extreme case... mine are thick walled so never will burn through.
Cool.

I would definitely interested in some engine guards.  any idea what color they are going to be?

Black would be my preference, but then I have the black '96, so... =]

Great news! I just saved a bundle on car insurance by switching to a motorcycle!

Please let me know when you are taking actual orders.  I'd really like a set as soon as possible.  I was actually getting close to buying the Suzuki set, but...

Thanks.

Would have been this comming weekend... but I am getitng killed by work, vulcan sale and scrummage for its parts, and bike hunt for this fire victim friend of mine... I'll still try to get them (atleast 1 pair) made by this weekend. That would make the rest go quick... Then I have to get them powdercoated... Lemme check with our resident powder coating guy.
Cool.

You mentioned earlier that you were trying to source longer mounting bolts.  Did you have any luck with this?

edit:  Sorry, I didn't see about the bolts.  Is the extra expense of the bolts why you switched from SS for the bar material?

seshadri_srinath,
I live up in Hickory, NC and would be interested in a set of the case guards.  Do you have any pictures by chance?  E-Mail me when you have something, my 14 year old son just got his WERA race license, but I would prefer to buy case guards insted of case covers    John Hart  My e-mail is JohnHart@TShirtSpecialty.com

pizzleboy

I am still interested.

I am PM'ing you.

SS to steel switch was due to the fact that my welder had somehitng go wrong with the stainless welder, also I'd make them in steel over SS anyway... the steel is thicker wall. Much stronger. BTW... these things will be heavy, ~ twice the wall thickness of the suzuki guards. Racing... well the weight might make you un competetive.
Cool.

will they be heavy enough to significantly (noticably?) impact those of us who just use our bikes to ride around and commute?

am the only moron who's thinking about mounting interstate pegs on the case guards?
If you think you can, don't. Many things start with "I think I can," and end with "Ow!"

Maybe some aux. headlights? :thumb:  :dunno:

sanityfree

nah, i'd put those on the bottom of the forks. big ol' HID's to suck my battery into nothingness!

hey ill take a set at 40 bucks when you get them done.  let me know thanks

richard

I saw a bike (scooter?  couldn't tell, it was too dark) once that had aux lights down on either side of the front tire.

don't ever do this.  don't even think about it.

why?

I couldn't tell what it was.  in the dark, the light patern is so different from anything anyone is expecting, it is extremely confusing.  he was 20 feet away before I realized that the two lights I was seeing were attached to the motorcycle coming towards me.

The more I think about it, the more I think it was a scooter.  it scared me to death, because it made the thing seem much further away than it was.

They are ~3-4 lbs max. The suzuki ones are ~1.5 lbs.
Doubling the wall thickness only bumps the weight ~60% if the OD stays the same, of course I have nearly tripled it... Dont know exactly how thick the suzuki one is, need to cut it open, after making a few to actually be accurate but I am guessing I am atleast 2 X. Where in the world do they get thin crap anyway. I cant find any even if I want to.
The wear resistance with double wall thickness is actually better than double. The reason its thick and monstro is you guys wanted to get replacements if you busted them. Now with them so thick... you will be very unlikely to bust them, they will pull the threads from the case bolts if you go down hard enough. Those are easier to replace. Lights on it... very funny, but usually the extra light are for covering empty stretches of road at night, makes good visibility even if it looks weird from the front. Foot pegs... OK knock your self out. If you're doing that much super slab, get a gold wing. These are mainly intended to save your bacon ... ok bikes bacon if you crash.
Cool.
