new gs500, some problems

I just bought a 93 gs500e, and it has an annoying problem. The starter works, but there's a wiring problem or something keeping it from turning on with the switch. The clutch lever on the bike doesnt pull in all the way, i think it's a replacement, and the bump on the inside hits the handlebar switches box so theres an inch or so gap between the lever and the grip. Does the gs500 of this year have a clutch engagement switch, and if so, could that be the source of my problems? Is there any way to check and see if this is it, or bypass the switch? The bike push starts ok every time, but I'm a new rider and stall a lot, so as you can imagine I'm getting tired of pushing it, especially on busy streets.

Here is what the arrangement looks like on my '99.  The highlighted item is the clutch engagement switch.  To bypass it, pull the two wires from the switch and hook them together somehow.  (I wouldn't actually CUT the wires unless it was my only choice.  Maybe you can tape the connectors together?)

A better option might be to replace the clutch lever with one closer in shape to the stocker.  Check out the thread

Turn the switches so their shallow side is to the lever... or turn the lever perch to meet up with the shallow part of the switch assy... If the clutch is indeed stock.
