I got a vist from the Rust Fairy

Ok so I go to pull off my tank yesterday and completly drain it because I'm planning on re-jetting and installing an F1S exhaust and paint the entire bike a color other than purple [long story]  But anyways I got a flashlight and shined it down the opening and there is rust in my tank :x  is there any easy way to get it out? Just put a little gas in it and swirl it around and dup it out the best I can?

You talk about loose rust?

Either siphon it out or remove the chicken / nipple assembly and swish it out there. You'll have to remove the latter for paintwork anyway.

i swished it around and alot of it came out  but I dont' think it's rust....It's a very fine crystal like  matter. mostly clear except some were tinted a brown-orange from the gas I suspect.

While I've got this post.....would wd-40 losen up the "gunk" that has seiaged my carb drain screws? THEY ARE SUPER SUPER TIGHT

Rust in the tank is a characteristic issue especially with older GSs, use search, loads of info to be found.

Glad to hear that it may not be rust!

I kept waiting for someone to mention the POR-15 fuel tank sealer.

There are some additional rust treatment options available from Bill Hirsch Auto -- check out THIS PAGE.  I bought the Motorcycle Fuel Tank Repair Kit but I haven't used it yet, so I can't give a personal testimonial or endorsement.

thanks kerry I'm look'n into that. If you read my post above I just put in 125/40 jets and I was suprised to see that the floats were pretty clean considering the carbs have never been off....However the floats were a red-orange color :nana:  Just when you think the bike is new....Maybe I ought to replace that inline fuel filter now too
