HI jjust saying hi to every one....

Well im here so im obviously intrested in a GS500....

I located in Central WI right now, but i am going to school in Clearwater, Fl in Oct after I graduate this yrs...

What do you guys think about a early 90s GS500 for a first bike and how reliable are they,  I havent completey decided what bike i want but i like the GS500 due to cheap and good mpg, not looking for looks for a first bike anyway.... well on with the story,  I would be useing the bike the everyday to commute to school which is about 1/2 miles from my apartment i picked out.

I would just like you thoughts on the GS500 for reliablity,  i have read main threads at other forums that the gs500 is like the perfect first bike, also would i be to big for it,  IM 6'4'' and 230lbs... tell me what you think

WEll the gs500 is a perfect bike for a beginner i"m just like you.  I'm not to conercerned about looks but the gs500 does look nice and sporty.

I got this bike as my first bike to learn on, after that I'll get something bigger.

I was concerned about the weight height issue also, i'm 6'3" 220lb but I feel fine on it.  It's comfortable. I've sat on a few other bikes and honestly my knees were all over the place and VERY uncomfortable.  I think you'll be very happy with this bike as your learner bike.  We have a couple other members on the board that are 6'4" + and they are also comfortable.

Where exactly are you in central wisconsin?  I know there are a few people in madison, and a few more in the southeast.  I'm on the lakeshore.

It's a great little commuter...warms up fast b/c it's aircooled, good gas milage, and super easy to handle in tight spaces.  I loved my little '90.  You won't be able to destroy that engine unless you do something stupid like run it out of oil or dump gravel into the manifold
GS500E....back where it all began....again.

i just got my '92 gs 2 months ago with 17000 miles on the odometer,  and it was left outside and neglected for 2 years previous. i put a new battery in after a couple days because it died while i was trying to start it. it was overdue for a new battery, it died very quick. but 40 bucks later, i have riden it everyday except for a few because of bad weather. always starts right away. pull the choke on and hit the starter and it fires right up and climbs up to bout 3000 rpm. i warm it up for a while and slowly ease off the choke. usually ready in under a minute.

i can at least say that it should last you for many years to come. you will probably move up to a faster bike long before your gs500 will give you problems. it is very fast ( faster than most cars on the road) and VERY good at handling. but it is admittedly a different performance level than 600cc and up sport bikes. beginning riders are usually not skillful/ experienced enough for a bike of that level. what i hear from experienced riders is that they are still fun and enjoyable. i let my co-worker ride mine who apparently likes stunting and/ or wrecking bikes. he had my bike doing burnouts in the parking lot at about one mph. freakin sweet. if you're into that sorta thing. then he offered to buy it from me. no, sorry. it is a good ride.   :thumb:

are there other forums besides gstwin.com??!! nope, i didn't think so.
my GS is driven like it's stolen.

A 1/2 mile?  Why don't you walk?
;)
But get the GS, yes it is an excellent first, second, or whatever bike.

Casting my mind back to those far off days, It will probably be important as you are a student. It's a great bike sporty enough but really an all-rounder that is cheap to run and easy to work on yourself. Welcome to the forum and enjoy it, get the best training you can and take heed of it.
