Gas in crankcase?

Hey guys, lately I been having some problem with my carb leaking a little amount of gas into the crankcase below. It seems to be leaking from the float bowl. Now everytime I parked my bike after a ride, a puddle of gas mix oil will collect on the ground near my side stand. Question is where does these oil come from. Is it foolish for me to keep riding the bike until the next service interval (prob in 2 weeks time) to get the leakage fixed?

DUDE....DON'T START IT

If you are actually getting, or have fuel in you crankcase DO NOT EVEN START your bike again. Truck it to a shop. Gas immediatly braks down ( it's all petrolium remember ) oil. Gas in your oil will destroy it, and no oil ( or useless oil ) will destroy your engine. Now, if you don't have access to a truck, that's probably something you can get around by draining the oils,  ( drain plug and filter area ) and replacing with new just before you ride it over to the dealer.

ok, i wouldnt start it simply for hydrostatic lock (doesnt always happen) tends to Bend things as liquids do NOT compress. no need to panic, just drain out the not thined out oil and put in fresh oil, but you need to check your float settings and make sure your float needles arent sticking open. if you installed a pingel, SHUT IT OFF when you park.  


For a good cleaning of an engine (DEPENDED ON OIL PRESSURE WHEN AT OPERATIONAL TEMP AND TOTAL MILES ON ENGINE) we use to IDLE an engine with Diesel Fuel for about 5 mins. then let it cool abit and drain it, change filter and put in fresh oil

( NO IM NOT RECOMENDING YOU DO THIS WITH AN AIR COOLED ENGINE WITH GOBS OF MILES OR NEEDS MUD TO KEEP THE OIL LIGHT OFF)

you would be surpised at the amount of Gook this removes from nooks,crannies,oil gallies,and drain passages. alot of lifter vallies and rocker crotches that were caked with sludge were cleaned verry well.

Diesel is not as Volitile is Gasoline, so Dont fire it up. but you dont have to have a shop do this. just fix the reason it happened in the first place.

Actually it's not this bad. Chances are you have a bad float needle valve and your carbs overflow. they usually ddo this into the airbox. The airbox is always a bit oily from the valve cover vent that goes there.

The fuel-oil mix now drains through the airbox drain hose. Which ends on the right side, not by the sidestand. Oops!


But then, you said it leaks from the float bowls? probably drips on the starter cover and from there filters down through the sprocket cover, washing out the muck it finds there.

Anyway, why should an engine that was oiltight before suddenly not be tight anymore because gas got in the oil? Beats me.

That doesn't mean that you shouldn't do something about the leaking carbs, you don't want leaking fuel to get on your rear tire either, but I don't see such a dramatic situation here.

Its not oil IN the crankcase, its oil ON the crankcase.

But otherwise, don't try to start it until you've fixed the carb overflow/leak problem and checked that the cylinders aren't flooded.

Actually, I did some work on the fuel hoses and carb. Some extra fuel must have been collected in the carb bowl or somewhere I am not too sure of. After I cleaned the crankcase and run the motor, the scond time more fuel came out.  Rechecked all the fuel hoses seemed to be tight. Cleaned it out again and went for another run. No more fuel! Tks all for the advices.  :thumb:
