modification question

i just bought a 99 gs500e and am wondering if anyone has ever modified the dogbones on this bike.  i'm only 5' tall and am having a bit of trouble touching the ground.  it would maybe have to be lowered 1-2" for a better fit.
suggestions?  
i thought if i could get longer dogbones and raise the fork that would do the trick...
any suggestions would be helpful.
