Muffler packing

I have recently purchased a returned V&H full exhaust from the dealer.
After inspecting the can with a flashlight I realize what a simple design it is.  All I see is a tubular metal grid spot welded into the center of the can.
My question is, could or should this can contain any muffler packing in it?
I know several people have commented on this exhaust system being too
loudl however I have not yet installed my since I have not re-jetted yet.

The V+H exhaust is loud but not obnoxious.  In fact i think it's just perfect.  My friends with their Ninja 900 and f4i600  With V+H and Muzzy cans said they heard me clearly after i was a block away.  But for me the idea of the can is so that people know i'm coming....or already there.  The V+H makes a nice growl at idle with a nice roar at higher revs.  I've even set off a few car alarms but that's no big deal in NYC since some of those things go off if you look at them funny.  Anyhow...i don't think it's too loud.  It's just right for me. :thumb:

Thats good to know, it appears we have the same year GS500 too,
Do you recommend a stage 1 re-jet or higher?  I will soon be doing mine.
Oh by the way does the V&H can contain any muffler packing or is it just
hollow?
THanks.

Honestly i never looked in the muffler but i'll do so later today.  I did have a stage 1 kit put in and a decent pare of tires.  I have to say the bike runs better than new (or stock) It responds a lot better and faster.  I've never been an over-confident rider but when the bike runs better i ride better.  Anyhow i'm on my way to moms but i'll check in the can and i'll try to take a pic or two.. :thumb:

It took me awhile to figure out it was me setting off the car alarms after I got my V&H pipe on.

COuldn't figure out for awhile why all these alarms just seemed to go off whenever I was going down the street.

It probably comes with some kind of fiberglass packing.  I know the bullet style mufflers I used to have on my Camaro had that same perferated tube design.  From what I hear, that sort of packing burns up after a bit of driving/riding anyway.  It may not even be worth your time to repack  :dunno:

Ok so i posted some pics on this web space i don't too much.  I felt around in the pipe and there is something in there as i couldn't feel the full width of the pipe from the inside.  There is a link on the GSTwin homepage that has some audio of the pipe.

Anyhow i dropped it off today to get a new gasket installed and umm to replace that missing engine cover...heh....
