Old Mr. Wilson

Yesterday I discovered 4 of the 6 six cells in my battery had extreme sulfate deposits and it was time for a replacement. The Suzuki replacement (Yuasa I think) is 90 bucks. An EXACT slip in replacement is manf. by BikeMaster and it was $27.11 (that includes Louisiana tax). Needless to say I snapped it up. While there I bought a Universal Vista "cruise control". I had to put it together off the bike to see how it actually fit together because I was perplexed. All instructions are a vague picture and directions (almost useless) were probably translated by Chinese. I got it on and it looks well and functions well. Tried it out this morning on a quiet Sunday ride down that old river road towards New Orleans. Feels weird not holding the handlebars and leaning back a bit!
Hahah. Anyway it was $30. I saw a pix of Kerry's and it looks like it would function fine as well for a lot less but this control is a good sleek fit.
Also TastyNuts (www.pro-bolt.com) has agreed to send me my 2 bolts that they shorted me in my order so I don't have the red ass anymore at that company and they look GREAT! They are all the engine bolts in allen style black anodized aluminum. Really an improvement over the stock bolts that rust easily. Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps, Wilson
Taxes are Good. Millions that have been on Welfare for the last 30 years are depending on you. Also Millions that are coming over the border each year are depending on YOU.
Also taxes will fix our shitty schools and roads that have been broken for 40+ years.

You really don't get it do you???

I wasn't actively looking for a throttle lock when one was "thrust upon me", because of a too-tight bar end.  Otherwise, I would probably have sought out and purchased something like the Universal Vista unit.

The UV unit probably looks and acts more "sleek" than my "Throttle Retainer".

The only distinguishing factor of my unit is that once tightened, it is "infinitely adjustable" without pushing a lever at each setting.  Unfortunately, this also means that the throttle grip will never "snap back" with a slight input - you have to twist the grip manually to turn the throttle off.  It also loosens over time (and the bike slows down) because of vibration unless you REALLY crank the thumbscrew down.

Will I ever cough up $30 to buy a "real" throttle lock.  Probably not, but that's just me - I'm used to this thing now.  Which would I recommend to a long-distance rider?  Probably the Universal Vista unit.
