I've tried my GS550F on a long long straight and my GPS tells me 166 km/h... Thats it... no more, not an iota faster. I heard 200 km/h ???

Any comments ?

Still, a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest...la la la...la la la.

Anytime the top speed subject comes up, exaggerated claims tend to outnumber the objective truth.  Sounds like your expectations were shading the far end of the exaggerations at that. :P

I had to convert mph to kph. I've done 100mph which is pretty close to 166kph. It was still picking up speed in 6th, but slowly.

I talked to a guy who CLAIMS 130mph out of his GS with some work.  The guy works for another local motorcycle shop. I don't know if he is telling the truth or not, but he told me he knew some cool tricks so I am going to talk to him Monday and pick his brain. I'll let you guys know  what I find out.  :thumb:

Fastest I've been on two wheels was on my 1989 Honda VTR 250.

105MPH and the bike was right on the edge of it's powerband.
If I gave it any more throttle I'd slow down.  So by carefully massaging the throttle, and "tucking in"  I could keep it at about 105.

Granted, that is based on what the speedometer said.  Could realistically be ~95 miles an hour or ~120, but I doubt a semi-stock VTR 250 can go that much over 100MPH without flying apart, so I'd say I was in the 100MPH range without much doubt.

I'm still getting used to my GS, and I think the fastest I've had it was about 75-80MPH.    I don't ride it on the interstate much since I was spoiled by having my first bike with full fairings and a decent windscreen to hide behind.

The GS has a lot more "pull" than my 250 did,  if I twist my wrist I can *FEEL* it, so I tend to not lay on the throttle and race through the gears as much as I did with my 250.

I guess you could say the difference would be to compare a Honda Civic with a Dodge Viper.

I think it's possible based on RPM redline on the tach. If your motor breathes well enough to hit that RPM(Vance & Hines + K&N). :dunno:

Well that's kind of a bummer if sixth still poops out. Maybe 15 tooth countershaft is the way to go.

We got the GS up to about 120 or so.  Not bad for a 42 hp bike :)

Now the zx6r...well Anne lost nerve at about 145.

175-180 mph  on My ZX11 a number of times...(Speedo  was beyond 180 but speedo error and all. ).
The top speed of the bike -- stock-- is just shy of 180.....

Yes it was dumb...( I had to know.....).

I had my gs up to 115-120 ( again speedo error is in play..and it was forever ago ) maybe twice .

I got about 180-190km/h (~105-115mph) on my 2k3 gs... thats the top end of it and I dont believe for a second that the 2000-2004 including the F model can hit 200km/h (~125Mph) on a stock gs500.

Now on any bike? I got on a cbr600 smoking joe edition and I had it up over 235km/h (145mph) and it still had juice in it  :o  not to mention it was still in those carburator days of the cbr... If it were even the f4i I could of brought it up past 265km/h (165mph).

I have had mine to 115mph indicated, and it just simply quits going any faster.

No fastest period, I hit 148 indicated on an Sv1000s on a dealer test ride.

i don see what the f%$king big deal is!         sry       but whoever is going 180... u must have a death wish.,         i love the gs          its cheap    and i can speed enough i feel safe   ive gone 120   so in relaity    110 or so,         i was zooming by cars               wasn't tht cool         if i hit something i wouldv'e been dead.           i just love beating my friends 0-60
cause they only have cars(suckers)

Brandon..

You can get killed sitting at a stop light doing 0.0 mph on your bike....

One could argue anyone that rides has some sort of death wish. You could also take the view  that anyone that rides has a thirst for adrenalin... not a death wish...

I've also gone skydiving ( loved it ). Similar thrill (Big adrenalin hit..).

The only reason you only went 110-120 on your GS is because it wouldn't go any faster. If it would do 180 you'd do it. Hell --  you're drag racing your friends cars from the sound of it......

Took mine out today, travelled to the next town. It's just straight roads, in 6th gear at 8,000rpm's my speedo was saying 100mph. I was back at 60mph soon after and it felt much more fun to ride at the lower speed. I could sit up again and actually hear things once more :)

What's terminal velocity in the spread position, 120 or so mph?  I wonder how fast you can go if you streamlined and dove  :o  Gotta find your top speed!
