This spring I am planning a trip from Mobile AL to around Grand Rapids MI. Basically from Mobile bay to Lake Michigan I don't have the time for a East to West coast cross country trip.    I was curious if any other GS owners from the South East US were interested (new orleans area, pensacola FL, Southern Bama...) Its over 2k miles round trip and about 15 hours each way. Best of all gas would be around 50 bucks.  :thumb:

Above is a rough trip plan.
Just thought I'd toss it out there now. Could maybe have a GS Meet some where along the way. Who knows... Let me know whats ya'll think.

I wish I could, but I would have to tack on another 3500+ miles to meet up with you and get back home....  If I'm gonna do that kind of mileage I think I'll save it for Alaska.

Seriously, today I started thinking (again) about a trip to Alaska.  Ride from Utah to Seattle, catch a ride on the Alaska Marine Highway up the coast to Seward and then ride the (land-based) Alaska Highway back down.  That would be 4000+ miles not counting the floating part of the trip.  I wonder if I will ever have enough vacation time for something like that.

Anyway, enough about my dreams.  I want to hear more about how your LAST trip went - the camping one.  It sounds like you're getting the hang of this cross-country stuff!

The last trip went pretty well. It was about 200 miles round trip(n.o to percy quinn st park mccomb ms), so not real far.  http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?ed=xTowJeV.wimQQVd6MsEKU7USFw--&csz=Destrehan%2C+LA&country=us&tcsz=mccomb%2C+ms&tcountry=us Weather from the new orleans area was warm and mild upon getting to the camp ground it became overcast and rained all night while a cold front came through. The tent kept everything dry and warm. The rain let up b 4 leaving mid 2nd day. The ride back was chilly, my buddy and I stopped at a Wendys for lunch. This couple stopped and talked to us. The woman said to my friend "hey i like your bike its cute. i could ride something like that"   Had a damn good laugh over that. Which added haste to his upgrade plans from his current Lime green 250 Ninja. Overall good, everything packed well w/ a spider bungee and some rope.

Kerry, IIRC the Alaska Marine Highway terminal shifted to Bellingham (from Seattle) some 10 years ago.
It is not good enough to say that we are trying our best. We must succeed in doing what is necessary.

Has their ever been any sort of GS meet or event?

Hey ashman! Spring is upon us - how are the plans going for that long ride of yours?

Your bike is "in shape", I trust?  I just skimmed back through most of your posts and it seems like you've steadily been getting ready for "the big one".

Let us know!

I might join in for a day or two.  Keep us posted.  I'm in Northern Indiana.

Hey, Kerry.  I'll take that Alaska trip with you.  I went to Alaska about 6-7 years ago, and while I was up there, I got this idea stuck in my head of riding a motorcycle on the Alaska highway.

Of course, first I've got to learn how to ride this bike.   ;)
