Anyone here have a set of these?  Anyone heard of them before I order them.  The reason being, I get better deals from MCSTUFF.COM than other dealers, but that is the only matching set they have besides the AVON's which are cheaper and cheaper isn't usally quite as good.

Let me know

The Macs are GOOD tires, but if you can afford it (and convince a set out of your dealer) go for the radials (ie a Mac 100 front and 100 or 90 rear).  The 50 are bias tires.  I have been running the radials for 2 1/2 years now, since ditching the shocking stockers at 5,000 miles (currently have >20,000 miles).   Have been really happy with the wera and handling.  :thumb:

Micheal,
Where did you get your's from? I was looking in the mcstuff.com catalog and only found the 50 series. Are you running a different size? Let me know

I live in Australia, so maybe we have different supplies.  It would be unusual for us to have something better than you folk in the USofA, though.  You may find that the catalog only lists bikes Michelin approve the tires for.  i remember checking their website once and put in a query for the GS500.  The only tires that came up for it were the Mac50s.  Perhaps the dealer won't recommend anything the catalog doesn't.  Trust me, the Mac100s will work and work well.  Actually, at the moment I have a Pilot Road in the stock size on the front and a Mac 90 stock size on the rear.  The Pilot Road is even better than the Mac 100, although I haven't had it long enough yet to see how well it will wear.  I got 20,000km out of the Mac 100 front and it was still hanging on well (it was just worn to the illegal mark).

I have M50s on my GS.  They're pretty worn, so I can't give an opinion of their quality when new.  I can tell you that they don't inspire confidence with me.  The consensus is they're a bit overrated (or maybe just overpriced).  Since I'm in the market for new tires if I decide to keep the bike (it's sorta for sale), the AM51/52 are on my short list along with BT45s, and Metz 550/330.

If you are looking at the Avon 45/46 I highly recommend them!  I put a set on a little while ago and love them!  Previously I had a set of BT45s that were pretty worn.  I could get the tail end slipping pretty easily with the BT45's and with the Avon's haven't got the tail out once.  I've been running some healthy twisties lately and they are very confident tires.
Just my not-so-humble opinion.

what size 46 are you running?

I got the Macadam 50 130/70/17 from CycleGear (Paid close to $120, but they were the only ones in town who stocked the tire size and I didn't wait to wait a week+ for a web order to ship in....)

Time will tell how durable that tire is; only have around 500 miles on it.  As far as the handling, it feels pretty grabby... but then again, the only other rear tire I know is the one I got the GS with, which was flatter than Kansas....

Anyway, if you get a good deal on them, I recommend them.

I'm running the 140/80 rear.  I know you've seen all of the debates about the 130 vs. 140 rears.  IMHO the 140 looks so much better under the tail of the bike.  Gives it a more sport/less little tourer look to the bike.

Hey mwdbruno, I talked with a company that will give me a set of those for around 175 bucks for the set. What do you think?

mwdbruno

Thats a pretty good price...is that including shipping??  Do a search on here for tire prices and you'll find some good deals.  When I get into work today I'll look and see what I have saved there for webstores with the best deals.
Have you been watching the other posts concerning tires and sizes??  Everyone has their opinions, and if you want I'll take some pics of mine with the 140/80 and Katana shock so you can see how much it is raised and wether or not you like the look...

207.90 total with shipping.  They were recommended from members of the board previously and are the cheapest I found including the shipping charges.  Call around to bike shops near you to find out how much they are going to run to mount/balance the meat for you also.  You may find some shops will not mount tires you do not buy from them (they make profit on tire sales too!)

Thanks man, I would really like to see a pic. I was going to order them today but got to busy. I don't really have to worry about checking other dealers and shops because I work for a bike shop. I'll have my tech's put them on for me, and I'll buy them lunch or something.  The main thing I was worried about was the 110/70 in the front not looking right.  I have heard about the katana upgrade and will look into it, but I really really need some tires quick.

As I didn't bring my digital camera to work, I'll snap a few pics tonight and email them to you if you PM me your email address
