Anyone been bitten by the pocket bike bug?
I'm planning to get one in the next few weeks and am wondering if anyone has any experience with the $300.00 models off of ebay?

I've seen the major brands go for well over a grand, so not sure why the huge difference in price... I'm just looking for a nice little 2wheeled hobby to keep myself entertained...

Thanks.

Monday UPS just dropped off one I won on ebay.  Started it up last night.  Had a slight problem with the front brake.  I guess there's not much QC in the Chinese factories.  The brake caliper was rubbing on one spot on the front rim & making it not roll.  Good thing no one jumped on it & tried to take off like a bat out of hell, or someone would probably have landed on their head.  Greg proceeded to remove the forks/wheel assembly (after figuring out that the front axle is affixed to the wheel & not removeable) & grinded the caliper down some.  Should be OK now.
I seemed to find a good pocket bike seller on ebay.  They shipped it out within a day, and UPS delivery was as estimated.  Their shipping charge was only $79, compared to most other sellers' $99.  I stayed away from the sellers that had pre-order auctions, or those that had no feedback for any previous pocket bike listings.
We're probably bringing it to VIR this weekend.

There are Pocketbike racing organizations.  Not sure if these Chinese models will be competitive, but you could probably have a lot of fun.

Also, the Chinese bikes have no suspension!

You get what you pay for. These cheap pocketbikes are exactly that...cheap pocketbikes.

Expect to add/replace a few fasteners and schedule some time to go over the bike to fix problems like poor brake fitting. The owners manual that came with Pam's pocketbike was not accurate so you'll have to do some figuring to disassemble.

Actually, G, I have now seen a few of the Chinese bikes with some sort of suspension, but you don't find this very often.

Eh, thats ok. If I'm going to "waste" my money on a pocket bike, I'll buy a Blata.

Good thing my knees wont' let me ride one. The good ones cost as much as a used GS!
