high idle

while taking off the throttle body, like an ass i let it fall apart. the throttle cable now when put into the hole of what can best be described as a half circle will not go into place without reving to high. What seems right to me is that the half circle should be facing up or north with the end at 3 oclock resting on the ledge of the inside housing which would be no gas. thinking this because when i put the half circle facing soouth it doesn't roll on smoothly. I'm really at a loss as to why it is reving so damn high now. Oh ya thought the screw about two inches down the cable could be loosned to let more slack and snopped the thread and now it's hanging but seems that it should still work.  :x  :x anyone got an idea ?

Have you tried adjusting the throttle cable on the other end - down where it attaches to the carb assembly?  (You have to remove the tank.)

The idea is to effectively make the cable housing (including the threaded ends) shorter to allow for more slack in the cable itself.  If you make the housing effectively longer then the slack gets taken up.

I hope this makes sense - I have to rethink it every time....

EDIT: Perhaps my post in the recent thread RPM problems will help, as well.
