I am planning on re-jetting my carbs, installing my V&H full exhaust and
replacing my airbox with a K&N lunchbox filter.  I have found the following
recommendation:

Main Jet                       150        (Affects  3/4 throttle - Full_
Secondary(Pilot)            67.5      (Affects   1/4 throttle - 3/4)
Air mixture (adjust as needed)    (Affects idle thru 1/4 throttle)

I also have an ignition advancer in place I installed last Fall if this has
any bearing.

I hope to get this right the first time however I am somewhat pessimistic.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

suggestions?...patience. the process is one of trial and error. Dont dispair if you dont get it right at first. Even teh pros, setting up bikes on a dyno dont get it right the first time.

Have fun.  Gets complicated.  Life is short.  I gave it to Suzuki.  Everything is stock.  They put in a kit they ordered that worked for someone else.  My bike pulls better from 3500 rpm on.  Seems to have more torque in the lower rpms and overall.  The fuel economy is about the same. Warms up much quicker.  I use the choke for about 30 seconds.  It's a pleasure to take it to work in Manhattan.
Mind you I did not go for performance.  My bke was running like crap when it came to warmup.  It turns out that it was more of a valve issue.
If I want performance I just go above 6,000 rpm.

I'm sitting here and am going out for a few hours before the family wakes up.  Gonna go for a fun ride.  Gotta get that GS to breathe after a week of commuting.  Redline here I come.

is it time to check the valves?

Hi-T

If you are ordering your jets, you may want to pick up a set of 65's and don't forget the pilot jets.  You may also want to find a set of needle shims (pain in the ass to find... eveyone says #4 id washer - but I think the needles in the 01 plus models are different too.  Take your needle with you to a hardware store and find one that fits).  Should help with any flat spots.

I ride an 01 and started with a 62.5 mid but went to the 65 with a 150 main and it's perfect.  But everybike is different so you may need to fiddle.

You will love the difference in power!  by the way, did you buy your VH new or used?

patience is a virtue and perfermance is desired, I will give it a shot.

The configuration I read about mentioned keeping the pilot jets stock. :dunno:

The V&H full exhaust I bought from the dealer which was return and slightly used but got it for 249,  an impulse buy for me.
With your re-jetting, what is your intake and exhaust setup?

Hi-T

I have the KN pod filter (no air box), ignition advancer, and vance and hines full system (slightly older though).

Do go a step up on the pilot-  the bike WILL warm up faster and it makes a difference at idle.  Just make sure you get the right ones (don't ever take the dealers word on something).

I ended up ditching my petcock and running a straight line from the tank to the carbs with larger fuel line- I was having trouble with wide open throttle runs... it would start to shudder- but as soon as I got the bigger line I did fine.  If you do that, just remember to plug the vaccumm on the right carb.

All in all I get pretty good perfermance and still maintain 45 to 50 mpg.  I'm still sluggish  from idle to 3000 rpms but after 5000 it starts to wake up and from 7- 11 it really screams.  You should also try a 15t front sprocket- the bike revs up a little faster and when I shift from 1st to 2nd at redline I can even get a little power wheelie - It's little but HEY- we're talking the GS.
