I have the 140 on the rear and I don't like it.  It raises the rear end of the bike and I don't think it looks any better.  Get a wider rim and do it right.

IM TELLING YOU!! GET THE 140/60/17, my 70 series just makes the sidewall appear... well, "cruiserish", the 60 is going to give you a lower profile and will look alot better, take my advise.

Hi-T

Let's make sure we are comparing apples to apples.

If you want a radial tire- I don't think you can go any lower a size than a 140/80.  I recommend a radial tire for more aggressive riders.  The first time you hit the canyon you FEEL the difference.

Many of our local racers have run 150's- good for them because they run on their egdes more than the commuter.  However, for a commuter, 150's aren't such a great idea.  the tire will wear and square off changing the profile of the tire and making deep turning kinda dangerous and scarey.

A good tire is money well spent- I'd recommend upgrading the tires and suspension before doing performance mods.

Aight Ace, Who makes a 140/60/17? I cannot find one anywhere. I still haven't ordered them yet. I talked with the company and they can give me the Avon 45/56's in Front-110/70/17 and Rear-140/80/17 for 175. Pretty cheap, but I'm still not sure about that 140/80 rear looking and feeling right.  When you change tire sizes how much does this affect the gearing, speedo, and anything else?

ACE

im not sure if they make a 60 series 140 rear but my 70 looks ok, everyone seems to like it better, it's a dunlop. 150 mounted and balanced

Awesome and thanks, but I was referring to a dealer who sold them.  That is what I cannot find. Umm.. politeness? what are you talking about; only asked.

I don't know where ltsiopou is from, but it's true that in Italy the hand gesture in your avatar is considered very insulting.  It means something like, "Your wife is stepping out on you."

Here, I just found a clue from an old post:

I couldn't say whether that hand signal means anything specific in Greece...?

Hi again,

there was no need to search for my info... I could give it to you if you asked... yes, I am a Greek who lives in Finland. And I am greatfull to this forum for the help I got when I asked... I never thought anything about the hand of newbieone in the picture... Maybe others have thought. My statement for politeness was about the way newbieone replied to my post. I started with Hi and I tried to help and his reply started with a straight... Where did you... not even one thanks... But, if newbieone thinks that his reply was ok to me, I am OK with that. And for saving your time from searching the forum about my info, I give you more now... My name is Leonidas Tsiopoulos, I am 25, PhD student, I have owned a (perfect in many ways) TDR250 for 5 years, since May 2002 I have owned a ' 99 GS (that I didn't like first but I like it now after some changes I made to it)  and since last October I have owned as well a GAS GAS EC250 for enduro...  Was that enough? Thank you.

Kerry, newbieones hand gesture does not mean anything specific in Greece (that I know off and can remember). However, showing the palm with the fingers "stretched out" is insulting if done in the proper way ;-), so be careful next time you visit :-D.

Being Greek myself I can confirm this :-)

Giasou Leonida

Thanks for the info regarding the tires guys, I have a feeling it will come in handy someday!

Leave it to me to start a riot of flames. So, sorry for the confusion. But if you must know, I am a pretty helpful person around here. But yea, I am a smartass. As far as the gesture in my avatar, just something I do for kicks.
So you better watch out, cause Sir Kerry has my back! HAHA, that is a joke. A J-O-K-E!

And for ltsiopou's last reply, right back at ya!

I am running a 140/70/17 on my '91 GS.  When I was looking for a tire(this is a retired drag bike and it came with a square tire), I did my research here and at a few other sites.  After figuring out the size I wanted, I went searching for a brand in my price range.  Chin Seing(sp) sells a 140/70/17, and that is what I decided upon.  I went to my prefered shop(Cycle World) with the info I had, and talked to my 2nd favorite salesperson(my fav. is her husband), and after doing some more research there, I ordered the tire(I think the brand is DURO) for $50.00 + install.  This tire has a harder(relatively)compound on the center, and a softer compound on the edges.  Since I will be doing some interstate commutes this summer(200+miles each way), and like to challenge corners, this looks to be a good one for me.  I can let you know more later this summer, I just had the tire installed Saturday, and just got to where I can really lean on it.
