Okay... I've given thought to doing some mods to my GS, but I'm not sure... I don't think it'd be worth it to do a lot of the things I've looked at, like a V&H exhaust, jet kit, and a few other things. And I just know if I do anything like that I'm gonna feel like one of those people who "pimps out" an Escort or a Cavalier.

How much would those cost? I've also seen things about people using other cans that weren't actually made for the bike. How does that work out?

Anyone know anything about Cobra exhausts? I just found out that they make a slip-on for the GS that costs less than $200.

I have a Cobra F1s.  It came on the bike when I bought it so I don't know the cost.  I like the pipe, it looks good and sounds good.  I wouldn't want mine any louder like the F1r is, mine is just a step louder and deeper than stock.

As far as pimping out goes, the main reason I like to mod my bike is I just like working on it.  Little things like turn signals and a SV headlight (thanks Pablo :thumb: ) can really make the bike look better, and cost very little.

I think there is a fineline b/w "pimping out" and "improving". Different touches like turnsignals, and engine or suspension work are just improvements on something the factory couldn't do. Now if you go flyin down the road with every major product company's sticker on your stock bike...thats pimping.
I'd say make the adjustments you feel are necessary for the bike; so if you feel it needs more power, go with the exhaust/intake/jetting. If you feel it needs better suspension, go with the progressive/new rear shock. Don't do things because people tell you its necessary, do it because YOU think its necessary.

Very good advice gitarman. I learned a bit from this. Everyone said to get progressive springs as a #1. After awhile I did it. I never really had any bottoming out happening, so I feel I didn't need to do it. Oh well. But I like my paint and dual headlights!

The F1 exaust is relatively cheap, and some would say ugly. Sounds good though. I have a V&H pipe. I changed out the rear shock with a Bandit 1200. It was more work than I thought it would be, but I can notice a big difference.

Whatever YOU want to do, for whatever reasons YOU deem appropriate, is all that matters. It's a motorcycle. Just like the gixers, kawis, and cbr's, it's still a motorcycle. CC's don't make the bike, you do.

I like the V&H, but it's too much $ for the age of the bike ('92 that I only paid $1k for). As to the changing the rear shock, the shocks have never really been an issue... How much would a dual headlight cost? And, are there any kind of bug-eyed setups (to go with the antenna mirrors  :thumb: )?

My duals are buell lightning headlights. What do you mean by "bug-eyed setups"? You have your original mirrors? You can always change them.
