yeah, i did buy new parts. I got EBC rotors and Galfer (black) pads. They got here the same day that I started having engine problems, so they're still sitting in a box. Once my engine is running again, I'll put them on but at the rate I'm having problems, that could well be next season :x  :guns:  (Ok, so its not quite that bad. Should finish tomorrow, I hope)

I ended up paying a little more (175 and 125 i think) becuase chaparral was out of stock. I'm glad to hear that you found them cheaper

I bought Galfer Black pads on the same Chaparral order as the rotors.  The pads arrived a couple/three days ago, but I wanted to install everything as a set.

I guess the two of us will be testing the Galfer & EBC combination at the same time!  :thumb:

You talkin' to me?  If so, you're further gone than I thought.  Unless you snuck back out West in the last few minutes, we're still 2,000 miles apart ... aren't we?  :o

But if you're looking for a not-quite-used-up set of rotors, you're welcome to mine.  Only I think shipping them would be the appropriate method....

Well, I got the front rotor on today.  Here is what it looked like BEFORE my 50-stop test ride ...

... and here is the AFTER picture.

Somewhere around Stop #25 I was easing along the main road in an extended neighborhood.  I heard a "ka-ting!" and could tell that something metal had bounced off the bike.  I pulled over right away, parked the bike, and walked about 30 yards back up the road.  Sure enough, there was a hauntingly familiar-looking bolt lying in the street.  I picked it up and said, "That looks just like a 14 mm (sorry, MarkusN) caliper mounting bolt."  I walked back to the bike and sure enough - the top mounting bolt was GONE.  :o  And I could turn the lower bolt with my fingers!

I hadn't brought my tools along (thought about it, but "NooOoo") so I just tightened both bolts as best I could by hand.  As I rode back home (doing a visual check of the bolts after each stop) I realized that I had no memory of torquing those 2 bolts down.  (I distinctly remembered torquing down all of the OTHER bolts.)

Let's just say that I dodged a bullet.  Be careful out there, folks!

Hi Kerry and Goat,

what are your thoughts about the EBC rotors and the Galfer pads? Good buy? Behavior in the rain? Other?

what's the difference btw the EBC Pro-lite  (MD3006RS)   and the EBC Pro-lite    (MD3002)  (apart from the $30 or so...)

I have only installed the EBC rotor and Galfer pads in the FRONT so far, but everything is hunky-dory!  I would definitely recommend both for street use.  (Racers might want different pads - I wouldn't know....  :dunno: )

The MD3006RS is the FRONT rotor and the MD3002 is the REAR rotor.  See the pictures on Page 1 of this thread.  If you look closely you can read those part numbers on the boxes.  Thanks to your input I have updated my GS500 Brake Parts list to make the "Front vs Rear" distinction more obvious.

I'll let you know when I intall them. My bike has been broken a lot this summer, so I haven't even installed mine yet. Now that my rear barely works and my front isn't working as well as it should, I need to get it done. Next weekend.

They do look nice in the boxes, though.
