ok first check this out: http://tinyurl.com/3hmho

I overtighten the screw (with item #9) and snapped. The screw I'm talking about is seen in the above link and now I only have the tachometer holding on by the right one that's still good. There isn't an item number for it, only item#9, #8,#7. the screw is part of the tachometer, but I have no clue if it's even replaceable :dunno:

Has anybody opened a tachometer to fix a broken screw, or something else? Can they be opened in the first place they seem sealed to the teeth the last time I was replacing bulbs...

Bummer . . .

I just tightened up my tach and speedo but luckily didn't break anything off.  I'd almost be persuaded to make sure the other nut is on tight, and if the tach doesn't move too much on bumps leave it.

But then again if it were me I'd always know it was there and I might freak out!

Good luck, sorry I couldn't help more.   :dunno:

dammm.

so my only option is to buy a tachometer...I was hoping for a cheap solution, I'm going test riding right now to see the damage I stupidly caused.

I'll tighten (not to much) the tachometer cable so tach doesn't fly off.

Find a buggered tach (mecahnical failure ) from someone...You can swap the white buckets but it's tedious......I know from doing the gauge faces.....

Remove it all from the bike.... take a small screwdriver and bend the bezel lip up-- all the way around the back edge of the tach..... ....now wrestle the face/bezel off the bucket...(will take some more bending).

Take the screws out of the back of the white bucket.... and the actual tach will come out.... obviously repeat the steps for both to get the parts you need together......

G et the right parts together... CLEAN YOUR BEZEL GLASS NOW! (hey while its apart and all..)... put the bezel back on the new good white bucket... now put the whole thing face down ona  soft cloth... and bend the bezel lip back down-around the white bucket....

Or just buy a tach....
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Yeah that was me.    One of my rides
