My First Night Out...Question?

Well, it was an awesome ride last night.  My first time out on the bike on the road and I got a lot of stares and praises and that definitely made me feel good (being a beginner and all).  But, I do have a question....is there anything I can do about the excessive shaking of the side mirrors?  I can't even see the cars clearly because I would be doing 20-30mph and the mirrors were shaking like crazy.  Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Congrats!  The mirrors will shake no matter what you do BUT tightening the mirror nuts will help reduce some shake.

thats weird, my GS Mirrors don't seem to shake very much at all. I believe they are the stock ones too. Stock handlebars, no end weights.

I ditched my stock bars in favour of some beefy bar end mirrors, and they keep perfectly still. Its an amplitude thing. THe longer the stock of the mirror, the more they will shake even from low frequencies (actually especially from low frequencies like what you have @ 20-30 mph). Not much you can do, unless you go to a lower mirror.

If you find yourself in a situation that you need to see clearly, pull the clutch in for a second.  The vibration stops.

bluedevil has a gsF and her mirrors are mounted on the fairing, right?

if so, see if any bolts are loose and tighten them up.....anything else we wouldn't know because there isn't many people who have experience on a F

Every bike I have owned, the mirrors would vibrate enough to make thing difficult to see. Also, they were all fairing mounted and to the fairing stay. I4's were worse and twins are better about vibrating less. Maybe I have just got used to it, but as long as I can see an image behind I am fine. If I really have to see clearly, pulling in the clutch works or sometimes I turn around.
Common sense in not very common.
