While driving my bike to buddy's house to began tearing the motor down. I started feeling like I was losing power, and being that bike has a oil leak and the feeling I got in my stomach was not a good one. Anyways, I coasted into a gas station so I could figure out what happened.  I thought I was out of gas but when I opened the tank, I could see gas. So i was like huh, well let's try again, bike started up and I began my home again only to die again more violently this time. I coasted again into a gas station. Turned the bike on pri. and started up and drove off again. Then I thought wait a min.! I looked at my odometer and it read 200mi. so I turned it to reserve and things were just fine.  I don't know why I forgot about it. I think it is because my head is cloudy from the night out last night. anways, is that about the average you guys are turning to reserve?

yeah, for the newer style (larger tank) of the 2001+ models. I'd consistently get 190-200 from a tank before reserve but I usually filled her up before then.

One thing I read somewhere is to never park your bike up for the night on less than full tank. The logic was that the heat from the engine would create condensation inside the tank, effectively adding water to the fuel (bad for riding and potential for rust in the tank). Whether or not thats true doesnt matter to me anymore. I make a habbit of filling it up just before I get home every time I ride. Although you have to remember I only ride once a week.

Wow - filling up everyday????

No way I am going to the petrol station 7 days a week.... let the f$#king tank rust I say!  ;)

I guess I must ride the ass off my GS500 (2003 model, 11 months old, 7K on the clock) or something is wrong with my fuel mixture cause I push to get 270 km not miles from a full tank to when I have to switch to reserve.

Hmmm Its interesting what pablo said; I parked my bike up on the centerstand thursday night, and friday morning it was idling/warming up like crap.  I had it on full choke, but it wouldn't go past about 1200rpm, where it usually revs to 3-4K rpms.  I got on and rode with the choke a litttle longer than usual and it ended up being fine.  I guess I'll see what happens today, otherwise I'll make sure to fill up with gas on my way home.

And to stay on topic, I would say I go 150-170 miles on my pre 01 tank before I hit reserve.
