What is the name of the piece with the 2 holes on the engine where the carbs connect to, and is that a part I can find anywhere?

OK INtake manifolds... You need the boots... You need intake manifold boots, cos they connect to the head... The rubber boots are what you need.

You sure you need those... What did the wd 40 test do... It does go bad, but you want to make sure it is what is wrong. They aren't very fragile, but yes they do go bad. I remember on this bike, I am trying to take the carbs off and I unscrewed the clamps that hold the carbs and I pull on the carbs and they dont come off, and I put more muscle into it, and they split in 1/2... BTW that bike wasn't sucking air in the manifolds... till I split the things.

I have not performed that test yet!

Out of everything that I have been working on that one scares me the most, I am a little afraid to spray WD40 on the engine while its running

It's okay, it's only flamable to an open flame source, so when the others have said that it was flamable, they mean it will combust in the combustion chamber. It wont set your bike on fire. :)

OK, So I should take the Tank off, start the bike then spray the wd 40?
Or should I leave it all together?

Also, What will I see or happen if there is a leak?

OK Done that a 1000 times on many different bikes, and in fact I spray rubber parts like manifolds and carbs and plug wires and caps and many parts in general and they all drip and puddle up below the crabs and when I start the bike it mokes like crazy... I believe if you poured it in a sauce pan and set it on a stove it will eventually catch fire... but otherwise it wont. Like cooking oil, motor oil or mineral oil... its quite inert unless you get it very hot and then spray it into a fire ... The tank can be on the bike, spray with that little red tube the can has, and hit the area between the 2 manifolds, and spray the outer sides and bottom and top as well... just fog the whole area. BTW if the bike is sitting for a while, this will help the rubber stay supple.

i've gotta do that too. my idle climbs as the heat climbs. my theory is that the carb-boot connection isn't perfect, and the bike's running lean. people at work told me carb cleaner worked well, but i've got wd40 already. so i should just soak the hell outta it sri?

The wd 40 will prolong the life of the rubber pieces especially if its sitting, but once you have the leak... its not going to help. However Idle rising when hot is not leak in manifolds. Its just lean. Air screw open up to 3 or pilot jets need to be up a size.
