Mileage from rear tyre

Hi all,

I was wondering what sort of mileage you commuters out there are getting from your rear tyres.  I mainly travel the motorway every day and have reached 8000 miles, and the bridgestone tyre (factory fitted) is ready to be replaced.

Any suggestions for a really good high mileage tyre, or indeed is 8000 pretty good, bearing in mind I wouldn't be very hard on the tyres.

It very much depends if you're happy with just good mileage or if you like to chase her through the twisties every now and then.  If mileage is all you care about, there is some pretty good "wood" out there. Thy have lousy grip, however.

BT-45 is a good compromise, as it has a harder compound in the center than on the flanks.

8000 mi isn't shabby, anyway.

I put new BT-45 tyres on a thousand miles ego, and I also put "Ride On" into them. It's a puncture sealent that, as a side effect, prolongs the life of the tyre.
I'll let you all know how many miles I get out of this setup.

Mileage would definitely be all I care about.  After riding 80 miles every day the last thing I want to do is get on the bike in the evening for some pleasure riding.

Buy the best tires you can afford, because on the freeway you just might need a really sticky tire sometime (remember, sticky is for brakes as well, not just corners).  Good tires are like insurance- you hope you never need it but you pay for it anyway, just in case.

Front should be sticky... I would love to get a front that wears as fast as the rear.... from being sticky and hence like chewing gum of course... anyway the freeways around here on a 40 mile ride... you might hit the brakes 2-3 times... remember you have good engine braking, so shutting off the throttle is enough, as most cagers have to brake due to their automatics...
