This is unreal I was texting him sunday morning wondering why he didn't answer. I thought he just didn't wanna wrench on Sunday figuring he slept in like usual.

Oh my god! I was starting to worry since I hadn't received a response in a few days from him... i was actually about to post here to see if anyone knew if anything had happened to him. I cannot believe this. He was so helpful to me and so many here. I met him here in jersey once when I took him out to lunch last year. Such a great guy. I am in shock right now. Please rest in peace Patrick! You will be missed.

my dad called me to say his riding group reported that someone named Patrick died. He called me to confirm the last name and sure enough it was him. I cannot believe it! He was an ATGATT guy.

Best wishes to his family at this time. This is truly saddening. Although I have only been on here for less than a month I feel like he was the knowledgable father of the forum. Always willing to lend a hand.

I wish i had made it up there again...

Patrick, you were a great man, and you will be missed by a lot of people.

Its unbelievable... One day I was texting him to meet up and wrench/go for a ride, and the next I was getting a text (literally from Ariel/Gorilla) saying that he has passed away... I cant believe it... When ever I had nothing to do, or wanted to wrench or something, the person I would always go to first was Patrick... He was such a nice guy and always welcomed any one and everyone over to do anything... He will be sorely missed...

RIP Patrick

Patrick taught me everything I knew about motorcycles, and was nothing but kind and generous to me. The world is a worse place without him now. At least he passed away doing what he loved.

Rest in Peace Patrick.

Wow.....that's unbelievable. I'm on the other side of the country, don't have a GS500, and Patrick was still a helluva friend to me.

The world is sadder place without him. My deepest condolences to all of his friends, family, and coworkers.

I cant even believe it.

From other sources, not confirmed yet, but it is said he was rear ended and he had a fatal neck injury. So at least he didn't suffer. He was riding alone, like he sometimes did, in Vashon. I feel I know that last turn he was making as he has taken me on it before. He would then stop at this winery called Polouse and talk to the Harley guy there before getting on the ferry.

I cant believe it still. Was such a good person. RIP my friend..RIP

Wow..... I too am in total shock and disbelief.

Patrick and I spoke a lot both on the phone and here. I was constantly shipping him spare parts to add to his colleagues. He was so so SO very knowledgeable. This is so sad but it must have been his time. He will most certainly be missed by so very many including myself.

It really won't be the same without him around here. His willingness to help everyone was amazing. I remember how when he was out here in jersey last year, someone from Brooklyn posted here for help and the next day he was on a train to Brooklyn to help the new user even though he had come to the east coast to take care of a few things of his.

If its any consolation man I was in the room sometimes when he talked to you.

I was with him sometimes and we would bring you up randomly in conversation. He always had good things to say about you man. Those of us whom are nearby him will try to do right by him.

I hope someone overthere takes good care of his cats!

Keep riding my friend!

So sad, how can this happen ?

I only met Patrick once, when l helped him bring his motorcycle lift home, although we occasionally emailed one another. Seemed like a hell of a great guy and l always meant to go back to the West Seattle bike cave to see him again. It's a huge loss for GSTwin and my thoughts go out to his family in this difficult time.

Its inevitable that if you choose to be a motorcyclist and become part the community you will ultimately suffer loss. This is another sad and tragic example of the fact.

I only hope it was quick and that he didn't suffer.

Condolences to all those affected, particularly Patricks mother.

What a terrible loss for all of us. And a reminder; we ride, we risk. I am resolved to ride as safely as I can, ATGATT, as Patrick often advised.

My deepest condolences to his family and the numerous friends he made the world over.

RIP Addy! Big Rich posted on the GS Resources and I came straight over here... I can't believe this has happened to him... never even knew his name until now, so sorry to hear of Patrick being taken like this. Life can be so unfair, and my sincerest condolences to his mother and brother from over here in the land down under.

I know he will be missed by all on this community right here, it is sad when someone who has contributed so much is taken in such a manner.

The one positive I take from this is that he at least went doing what he loved... riding his GS500!

Hello James,

It's been a tough loss of a friend of over 20 years.

At this time, the family is not planning to have any services or proceedings.

He greatly loved riding with all and working on his GS500's. He was also very generous with turning his garage into a hangout for those to come work on their bike.

If I hear of any change to plans, I'll let you know.

Lance

---

Some guys from the Husky motorcycle club were talking about getting together and heading out to Vashon to sit at the beach and talk a bit. He loved the island, seemed appropriate. Would anyone be interested in trekking to Seattle for a morning?

Owe nothing to me. Pay it forward and do someone else a favor.
There are 2 types of jewels. One has a large diamond in it. The other has a lot of small textures. First is older, second is newer. What year is your bike and what type do you have? I'll try to give you the same type.
I'll mail it out Monday.

Press it in and secure it with some super glue from the back side. So yes, take out your gauges & stuff to do it. At the same time, add some glue to the other jewels.

(PM sent on the 20th from adidas)

He sent me the oil light jewel on the 21st and included a freaking sweet postcard with the Husky bike on it that I put on my desk at work as soon as I received it. It's gonna stay there and I've gotten sooo many questions about it. I'd never even talked to him before and he sent me the part the only way to get it (not a replaceable part according to Suzuki). Seriously, class act kinda guy and I second the burnouts down that driveway.

Haven't worked on the bike (aka needed the forum help) for a few days now but absolutely floored to find this tonight.

I am still crying over this. The one thing I realised after my first post was that he was 62, in pics he looked a lot younger. I thought he was in his 40's. In any case, a rear end accident knows no age.
Wishing his family the best.

I'd read a load of Adidasguy's posts on GStwins before I got my GS and his enthusiasm was one of the things that inspired me to get this bike. All the threads about the Bike Cave and sending people parts etc...

I've worked through some fueling problems on my bike and have read loads of his posts.

He gave me advice on an issue just on Friday which fixed my problem and I was delighted about that.

I then hear this happened on Saturday.

I Goggled his Software company that was mentioned in a link, and I see a picture of him looking well proud with his GS on his company website.

Rest in Peace Patrick.  :icon_sad:

So sorry to read this.

I'm new to the forum, and Adidasguy was one of the 1st two people to reply to my very first post here.  I obviously didn't know or have any experience with him but I was lurking for quite sometime before joining the forum and it's easy to see why he will be so sadly missed here.

It appears that he was an enormous help to just about everyone. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to know him. He sounds like he was a hell of a guy from all of the posts I read.

My thoughts go out to his family.

That's all there was too it. Lady around the same age as Pat hit him from behind while he was waiting to turn and the collision snapped his neck. Watching that video that was posted above and looking at that picture Suzuki Stevo posted seriously makes me want to cry man... Seeing Suzi and all the other bikes that were always there and knowing that Patrick will never be able to ride them again because of someones stupid mistake...

If I know Patrick, I know he is in heaven riding a brand new GS500 from Australia with tons of genuine German parts after drinking a brewskee and eating some papa Johns pizza with plenty of butter sauce...

I miss you man.

I think because Ollie, one of his best friends is in Switzerland, we are awaiting for him to back Saturday and plan sometime to go there and BBQ afterwards with his friends and maybe co workers.

Ollie arrives Saturday and once hes back we can include him in the ride. My dad and Rich, and his son Zack also want to join. Not to mention BrianRC and I.

On a West Seattle Blog:

"I was one of the first responders on the scene and gave Mr. Lajko CPR until the medics arrived. However it was quite clear that it was in vain and that he had died instantly. He passed on a beautiful, sunny day, doing something he apparently loved, riding his bike.
Please know that he was not alone when he died, but surrounded by a small group of strangers who came together to lay hands on him in love and to pray for him.
It heals me to finally learn his identity, what kind of person he was, and to see photos of him smiling and well. Thank you.

As I read these posts I see that Addy must have been a very inspiring man, especially in person.

I'm impressed because rather than the self-serving sympathy that usually follows a death, in Addy's case I can see stories of respect and fondness.
Positive energy flows in the posts, PMs, and emails that have followed this incident.
Many good memories have been stated both here and in his local community.

I'm glad that I did have a few occasions to chat with him here on the forum... Sometimes about my bike's brakes, and sometimes about cats.

I just saw this. Such terrible news. My condolences to all of his many friends here on the board. He responded to my posts and bailed me out more times than I can count. I too thought I'd someday end up in the neighborhood and maybe drop by the Bike Cave to finally thank him in person. He was so generous with his time and bike knowledge that sometimes it seemed like he was on here solely to answer my dumb questions, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that felt that way.

RIP Adidasguy, you will be missed.

I'm on Vashon island right now taking a break from the rain. I talked to Faith at Palouse Winery where Patrick was stopped and waiting to turn into their lot. He was buddies with the owner who himself rode Harleys, and if you really knew Patrick he didn't discriminate riders for their bikes.

She told me the story of his accident which is much like the quote above from the first responder. One important detail is he was hit directly from behind at 50mph, enough to discharge his helmet across the road with the chin strap still fastened. He died instantly. No doubt.

I am putting up a small memorial on the winery's property. They are being amazingly supportive so if anyone visits the site, please stop in and share your time.

I will post pictures of the scene later this evening.

Ok, I'm off to ride with Patrick one last time.

Words escape me! I am incredibly sadden by this. I was about to put the custom exhaust piece on Flick that he "made" for me. No he didn't buy it he had it made for me. He would never charge me for the many many parts he gave me. The LED lights , the brake fluid resevoir, the custom chain guard, and the heel guards! So, much he did for me. He was supposed to come down to Orlando next month and we were going to hang out for the weekend he was going to rent a bike and we were going to ride.

The last time he came to Orlando I took him to everyone of the Adidas outlets here about 7 stores! At the last one he told me to pick out a pair of shoes since I needed a new pair for work. I went for the cheapest ones but he wouldn't let me get those. "Get the ones you need" he said $85 later I had a great pair of work shoes. What I didn't know and didn't find out until he had left is he put a hundred dollar bill in one of the shoes as a thank you for the escort. That help me get my medication for my heart that month. I feel like such a jerk for not being on here more and taking this long to find out that one of my good friends is gone. Tears are rolling as I write this. I didn't wear these shoes as often as they are now a couple of years old they typically reside in the back of the car as back ups but for some reason I got them out today and put them on to work on Flick.

Patrick (Addy) may you be riding those twisty streets of gold and wearing those nice tight Addias jeans that you loved (and I loved watching you in)!

I'm going to take my chain guard and heel guards off of Flick and have them powder coated. Does anyone know what his favorite color was? I think if it will work with Flick I will make them that color. Also, does anyone know what noble steed (bike) he was one when the accident occurred Suzi, Jr, Trey?

You will never be forgotten.

Mary I pmed you this bechause I didn't want you finding out like I did. I knew you all were close. like we were. I loved the guy. we talked often. I treasured every minute of it. I never had a bad moment with him. EVER. always looked forward to talking with him. last we talked was when he posted the yamahonkawazuki pic lol. 2 days previous. which was 2 days after my surgery. I was told after I asked for an explanation of one of the RIP threads I had seen. I found out in the hospital lobby. waiting for bus to house. now im not sure of his favourite colour.  although, he did recently  complete the UW bike. whos colours were white and purple. granted flick is blue and white. but hey. id put a purple piece on a blue bike to just get conversations started :). and explain the need for proper fitting gear .,  Patrick would take time out of his day to let folks know the necessity of properly fitting gear.

Yeah, I was just discussing that even if it were lime green and someone asked then I could tell them of my friend that I lost and how important it is for people to pay attention when driving. Everyone seems to be so wrapped up in their phone etc while driving that they just don't notice! I posted a photo of a woman sitting at a red light facing the wrong way and she just couldn't figure out why the light wouldn't turn for her.As I came through the intersection I almost hit her head on because the last thing your expecting is a car just sitting in the wrong lane!

Oh well, no rant here. I do have another question about the accident. From looking at the photos I have to wonder why Addy didn't try to bail off to the right side. I know here in K-town due to the above mentioned I am very vigilant about my 6. So, I wonder if maybe he was focused on making that left and failed to notice the quickly approaching vehicle. She is still in the wrong I believe (well she was definitely speeding) but if we can learn something from this at least his death would not be in vain.

I'm wondering this too. I stopped by his house today, I dont know, just because and I took a peek in the bike cave. In there I saw Huhsky, Junior, Phenix, Susie, ex500 and the TS.

What bike is missing?

All assumption here, but if you look at the pic showing my bike from behind and facing oncoming traffic, you'll see a very blind corner where you will only have a few seconds to cross the center lines and turn left before you see an approaching vehicle. When I was there, that was my main focus as I took the exact path and stopped to take the same left as Patrick.

Plus, from the recounts I heard while there, the driver showed like she was going to pass on his right on the shoulder. Maybe he noticed this and focused on oncoming. Maybe there was too much oncoming and someone barreling down on your 6, where do you go?

The last time I saw him in person is when we were making the Yamahahonkawazuki and taking the picture... He had always wanted to get one of those ever since I got a Honda... I'm still as awestruck as day one.

I can't help but tear up when I read through these threads, and I never even met him. I guess that's just the kind of guy he was though, had an affect on anyone he reached out to.

Just spent the day on Vashon.  It was very moving to see his photo and be in that place.  I cannot understand how the accident happened.  The speed limit on the island is slow.  I counted a few cars on the time traveled from the corner to the winery and they clocked 8 seconds.  How someone can't see, avoid, stop, etc .. In that amount of time is beyond me.  We spent a pretty amazing 20 minutes saying goodbye, leaving flowers and memories.  We even got a little rainbow on the way back across the water.

From the West Seattle blog:

"Since Patrick's FB page has been taken down, and FB won't let me reply to private messages, I suspect this is the Patrick Lajko I met so long ago.

He was sent to the 1977 Wrld Science Fiction Convention, that year in Miami. He was garbed as Luke Skywalker – you can see his picture in Starlog's No. 11 issue. Mine, too, with a Wookiee.

We met up waiting for our turn in the Masquerade (costume contest.) I was dressed as Princess Leia. Only one of our friends knew we'd be teaming up, one of his buddies who was in the photographer pool. We kept being pushed back, to be the "grand finale," I guess.

We stepped out to cheers, since the first "Star Wars" movie had debuted that year and still was in theaters. We did a short presentation, including a kiss that brought more cheers, and walked off with "Best Re-Creation" and, the equivalent of best in show, we think, "Judges' Choice."

We never met again, but recently I found someone's pictures of us during that memorable event, and made sure he got a copy. During one memorable event so many years ago, he and I were "stars."

If this is, indeed, my Jedi Knight partner, then I send my love and aloha and sympathies to his friends, family and coworkers."

All, Its it is with sadness that I make one of my few post on this forum.  :icon_sad:
I've known Patrick only for a short time, and I thought, perhaps as a tribute, Id share MY story &
connection to Patrick.

Ive been a motorcyclist for the majority of my life. Ive owned many bikes, dirt street and even
roadraced for a strech.
Only recently I acquired a GS500E, not for myself but as a first vehicle for my then 16 yr old son.
Shortly thereafter I found this board and read many a post from you knowledgeable people, including significant contributions from "Adidas Guy" who I found out was also in my home town.

Fast forward a year and my son Zach has embraced MC'ing in a big way and begins to explore
wrenching on his own ride.
As we have all probably done, he (Zach) gets in over his head, and while attempting a valve
adjustment, wrecks his (cyl.) head.
He is understandably Bummed. No Wheels, No money (HS student) and few options.

I suppose I could have bailed him out bought him a new bike, motor, or fixed it for him in some
fashion, then chalked it up to stupid things your kids do, but as a parent you try and teach your
children when opportunities arise.
In this case Zach now a Sr. in HS, has as part of his HS graduation requirements a "Senior Project".  A hands on effort including a written thesis and presentation.
I suggested to him that he make his "story" his project. Fixing his ride and perhaps improving it
or customizing it, as is the hot rodding tradition.
He immediately liked the idea

By this time many of you reading are wondering what this story has got to do with Patrick?

Well while I was well qualified to help my son repair his ride, & produce the elements of his
project, the rules for the project from the school district explicitly forbade family from assisting.
So I reached out to a guy, who from what I read, had a genuine passion for this little motorcycle
and had cultivated a group of like minded individuals who regularly gathered to work on bikes, ride
or otherwise enjoy each others company.

I met with Patrick at his Man Cave and was surprised to see the number of GS500's he owned!
I described my sons project and asked if he would be interested/willing to be Zach Project
Mentor...
He said it sounded like fun and we arranged to meet again next time bringing my son for
introductions.

Over the intervening months the those two became friends & along with the NW 500 club regulars, got his ride fixed running better than ever and looking good to boot.
During this time Zach ran into this or that teething problems with his ride: Carb issues, an RR
faliure, a holed R. tire.. and each time Patrick was there with a replacement part or temporary
spare so that the boy could keep riding.
I recognized that there was a number of new parts on Zach's bike & when I asked Patrick how Zach was covering them he asked me if It was alright to have Zach work various odd jobs around his home & property so that Zach could earn the $ he needed to forward his project.

Class act.

What I appreciate is when many kids nowadays, my sons peers included, are getting into trouble & stuff that has the potential to screw up their futures, there were still guys around that were a
positive & productive influence.

Patrick was genuine selfless human being

My friend you will be missed.

I did not have the personal connection to Patrick like a lot of you have had, but I still feel that I owe him a great debt. He helped me willingly as often as possible when I was having issues, and was always there for others in need. He was among a few of the people who really drove me to this forum and made me love my GS as much as I do. His stories alone were reason enough to come by and read for a while, let alone any tips and advice you could pick up along the way. From 2500 miles away its amazing to say one man can impact your life, even in a small way. Adidas proves that this medium we interact on, can, and does matter. Thank you Adidas, for all you did.

Mary

Wow. A perfect example of the guy he was. The same thing happened for me. I bought a beat up GS and he made it into the beauty it is today. He also gave me heel guards and chain guards and so much more. All those tangible things are nothing to the intangible things he gave me though. If you haven't found out he was riding his new Suzuki 650. He sold one of the GS bikes, (frank I believe) to jmill, and immediately set about buying a touring bike. He wanted one because of a ride he took in Oregon to visit his family. He rented a BMW and was enthralled with the idea.

Again man great story. Keep em coming! I for sure will never forget him.

That's a good idea. I am going to try to find a place that does plaques and have one attached to my motorcycle. I planned one day to upgrade perhaps but after so much help from him every step of the way I don't think I can ever get rid of this motorcycle now.

RIP to the man who believed in my GS mission, who gave me all the time I ever needed to help out, who helped me find parts, and who offered me a GS500 if I was able to get to Washington and build it with him. I wish I was able to make it there when I could :(

A lot of Good people are dying on two wheels the past few years. Only friends that are left alive that I cared for or rode with I can count on one hand. There was over 30 5 years back.

Rest peacefully, brother. I will miss you, and carry on your kindness and commitment to helping others out.

I have been putting off posting because I don't know what to say. Death has never hit me quite so hard. Patrick was such a great friend to so many people. He had a way sticking with you, even if you only saw him a few times a year or talked occasionally. He was a friend you could count on.
His memory will continue to improve the lives of so many people.

The last time I saw him was at the Seattle International Motorcycle show, when Huhsky was unveiled to the world. I feel bad that I put off many recent trips to the bike cave  since I moved a few hours south of Seattle. I never got to go on a ride to Vashon with Patrick. I look forward to dusting off my GS for the memorial ride -- I have a grumpy cat doll that can tag along.

This is really weird, the reason I joined this forum was because I watched a you tube vid made by this guy about fitting a stainless zorst.I've fitted the zorst to my daughters GS today. It was Patricks enthusiasm that convinced me that it was a good idea to join this forum,I'm sure he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Aye. I caught the news. the Monday following it wondering wth?, and found out in hospital lobby. I guess the best we as friends of his can do is live as he did. as people, others would look up to. and set a good example for others to follow.  if we shoot how to videos, lets do so with the same enthusiasm as he did. .

God dammit, f%$king fuckstick f%$k f%$k.

Freaking piss ass dammit. I am so god damn mad.

ADIDASGUY was one of the best all around riders that I ever had the pleasure to talk to, to get parts from, and to frantically call for help when I broke something. This freaking sucks.
I'm going to go have a damn beer for the guy.

I hope the foul language correction software has fun with my post. f%$k ass Buddha Loves You.

I think Patrick's (Addidasguy) premature departure for heaven is proof that God rides a temperamental GS Twin and needed someone to help sort out the issues. RIP.

Guys, this can't be happening...

I just found out about this...I saw Patrick's picture in someone else's avatar and I thought "oh no...it can't be..."

I'm so upset, I'm trying very hard not to burst into tears writing this...Patrick was an awesome person and everyone loved him...it's such a damn shame that he went out like this...some worthless person took his life due to shear carelessness...can't believe it...

I hope they revoke her license. I hope they put her in prison. This is un-f%$king-acceptable.

He helped me out quite a few times back when I had my GS. He always had what you needed, always wanted to offer help, and then he would always carry on the conversation after the work was done. Genuine good guy

Sorry I haven't piped up in a while but I literately start crying every time I look at this and see his picture everywhere. I've had the tab open in my browser and can't bring myself to look at it. Any confirmation on the day for the memorial ride/bbq? Here's a story. Hard to write.

I stayed at a friends place last night and was getting set to ride home this morning. As I checked over my bike looking at everything, I locked in on something I'd completely forgotten about. A couple months back Patrick got into this Guardian Bell thing. He told me how the ringing of the bell 'keeps away the gremlins that cause mechanical issues on your bike'. The gremlins know if you put it on there though, so it has to be a gift from someone else and someone else has to put it on your bike. If you want to move it to another bike someone has to do it for you. So we kind of chuckled at the absurdity a bit and I figured well, I could use whatever help I can get and it can't hurt. Plus it's a good conversation starter.

The funny thing about the bell is you never really notice it because the exhaust covers the noise unless you do something stupid like kill the bike trying to pull away cold or something and then it gives you a little ring, like 'hey you're a dum*a**'. And now I hear Patrick's voice when it rings too. 'Don't you know you have to let the bike warm up?' 'Why'd you kill it, did you remember to put powdered milk in your handlebars?'.  If I ever sell that DR I'll need someone to move it over for me. I think he said he picked up the whole thing from Ollie?

Always delayed it, now it's too late.

Everyone's taken too soon.  Make sure to stop along the way and tell people you love them.

I only just discovered this loss.  I'll be there on Saturday if I can get out of work.  Thank you Patrick for your help and letting me join in building that GS last summer.  I've spoken often of you and the bike cave when I discuss motorcycling with people.

The most I've done on this board is ask Patrick questions about my GS.  In Sept we had planned to install some springs on my bike after the weather got better....I PM'd him a couple weeks ago to follow up with our install and was surprised that I didn't hear back because he's always quick to respond.  Then I come across this thread.  I'm at a loss for words.  I wish I got to know him better.  RIP
Anyone ever find out what happened to the driver?

Saddest thing is that he was hit from BEHIND while STOPPED, meaning that he really had no chance, no matter how perfectly he may have been riding.

Wow, just... wow.

Like many I was dumbfounded by this information and my Friday is pretty much ruined now. I dont check back here as often so I wish I knew sooner. I havent post much in recent years since I moved away from the GS but was very active for 2 years. During that time my GS was my first bike. Like countless others I had tons of questions and Patrick (forever adidasguy) was always quick to answer and help. The guy knew these bikes inside and out. While im sure he saw my questions over and over he always helped, even though he probably answered the same question 50 times. You could tell he loved these bikes, he had a whole garage dedicated to them! Its a loss for this community, the motorcycling world and most of all, his family.... My condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Patrick........ You will be missed by more people than you probably can imagine and we are thankful for your contributions to this world. May your informative and humorous posts live on as your legacy of one of the best motorcyclist I never even met.

Just a note, these online communities really are that, communities. Its not often hearing about the loss of someone you never actually met makes you tear up :(

Wow i just email him a week or so ago, i was wondering why i didnt get a response because it was usually the same day, he has given me many parts over the years and we have also traded some back and forth. I work night shift and we would also email back and forth sometimes til 4 or 5 in the the morning. I dont know if anyone has done so yet but i would like to see if we could get a uniform sticker to remember him, maybe like a addy logo or something. rest in peace my friend you will be missed.

I see mary has come up with one. let me know what the cost is so i can get a few.

Wow, this is crazy. I am just logging on to the forum now after a short hiatus and I come across a post about a fork brace with an adidas logo in memory of Adidasguy...this is shocking, sad and humbling all at the same time.

I had just received a sprocket cover from him a few months back and installed it this past weekend. In my limited dealings with him I found him to be a great guy. All the best to his family and friends. :(

he was anal about ATGATT. He gave me hell over a few of my goped vids lol

It's taken me a month and a half to finally post about this. It's strange. This is my first time experiencing a death in my riding community.

I'd only messaged him a couple times via youtube and here (didn't even realize it was the same person for a while. I can't pretend to have known him like some here do. Hell, the last almost-interaction I had with him here was taken exception to his seeming exception to having characterized him as being a "fan" of  certain brand of chain.

Strange, strange business, this

I took this on the 29th of April with the intent of posting it here. When I got him logged on, the first thing I saw was this thread. I'm pretty sure it's something he would have appreciated.

Rest well, sir.

adidasguy was one unique and cool dude, he is irreplaceable -- his videos helped me a lot as it did many others when I was tinkering with the GS500F.

R.I.P adidasguy, we won't forget ya!

Hey guys, Its been a while since I have been on here and I feel I have done the community a bit of a disservice in not keeping people up to date with what was going on with Patrick's Bike Cave.
With the blessing of Patrick's Brother, Mike, the lawyer and executor of the estate; one of Pat's neighbors, Ryan (who is a rider but is not on here) has agreed to help out and store parts from the cave and provide some wrenching space. It is our hope we could continue a similar service to the community, if not the glorious experience that was the "Bike Cave".

It is pretty overwhelming honestly and some of the parts we feel should be offered to those in need for cost of shipping, just as Patrick would have wanted.
We have a HUGE supply of E type Fairings that are in decent shape, some better than others and multiple assorted colors. Patrick really did believe in being prepared!

Just learned this today, several months on. I've never been an active member of the community here, but Patrick helped and hosted several times in the Bike Cave, and I am always telling people about this GS guru dude I know who's just astonishingly nice and generous and into it for the pure love of it. What a loss, and what a reminder about how transitory life is and how dangerous bikes can be. Breathe.

I have been inactive in the forum for a long while.

I logged in a while ago to send a PM to Patrick for a couple of things I needed for my bike.

I sent him the message. Then I went to the main forum and I found this thread...

Last year I spun a rod, and Patrick sent me a crankshaft with rods, that for all practical purposes was new... for free... When I asked him why, he simply said that there were things more important to him at the moment, that if he could help me, it would make him feel good.

This is deeply saddening to me. It is rare to come across a human being so selfless and eager to truly help. Also, a rider that I believe had to be amongst the more mature and careful, to be taken that way... It just sucks and reminds me of the risks I run each day I ride, no matter how careful I do it.

A bit too late, but safe ride, Patrick, and thank you so much for reminding me that sometimes giving is worth more than receiving.

I similarly haven't logged in for quite some time and just found this thread.  This is incredibly sad news.  I've always thought that safe riders like the members of this site would be safe and sound on the road.  Adidas' passing affects me more than I'd have thought, and goes to show that traffic is never a safe place.  Thanks for all the advice and videos Adidas, you will be greatly missed.

I'm sorry to hear the sad news.  I had watched a video of his a few days ago related to the flywheel and starter ring.  I'm glad to have gotten his advice and I wish he was still around.

Hi everyone,
I, too, have not been checking on the boards much in recent months and am STUNNED to learn now that Patrick died this spring on one of his beloved motorcycles.
I don't even know where to start.
He was a great fellow who was always there to help everyone, quickly becoming their friend. We talked about parts on the phone several times over the years.
I bought new style factory European clip-ons from him for my 1991 GS500E, as well as spare side fairings and other parts.
Patrick, thanks for all of your help, your kindness and your friendship, even from 3,000 miles away and despite having never met in person.
My thoughts go out to your family, your friends and all of our pals at gstwin.com.
What a complete shock.
Best wishes,
Trwhouse

I was rebuilding the forks on my Dualsport yesterday when I decided to start up the GS.Man o man I just stood there and looked at the bike and could swear Pat was standing on the other side of it !!.
I guess that vision is always going to be attached to that bike .

Even from the other side, Pat still helps us a lot. Just this weekend I removed and reinstalled my fairings, which I'm sure would have taken hours without his help. Never met him in person, still pretty painful to watch his vids... I'm grateful for him choosing to be a member here.

Hey, It's cool you ended up with some of the stuff Patrick had.  I talked to him quite a bit and got to hang out with him once just before his accident.  He was a cool guy.   Id love to know if people in the area want to get together or,  If nothing else, I'd be down to participate in any memorial functions that may be scheduled in the future.   I actually was fortunate enough to get the red bike with the fairings he called junior. I really consider myself more a custodian of the bike than its owner. The assumption is a lot of stuff got thrown out, but I was hoping you might know if some of the other seats and body work he had for the bike were still around someplace?

And i dont see myself changing my avatar for a very long time. Just cannot let him go. Do not think ill ever be able to. But i guess its not a bad mind haunting. Weve had two members pass that im aware of. Rich aka phaedrus, and our beloved adidasguy. He had his quirks that made him who he is. Not a bad thing at all in my opinion. Had been conversing with him since early 2010 not long after rays death, ()

He would call out of the blue when he wanted to talk hed always text asking permission first :) and our conversations would sometimes go on for hours. Will always treasure those memories. As far as parts go, is there a piston in the bunch of parts, would love to swap it in place of the cbr piston on my cane. Was talking with patrick about this 2 days before his death. Said hed have to see what he had if anything. Said take your time my friend no rush. Ohhhhh the memories ill treasure :"(

Almost two years ago my daughter bought and brought home a gs500 in need of TLC.  I said lets get on a forum site and get some help.  That's when I connected with Patrick.  Holy cow what a guy!  Not only did he have the answers, he had the parts too.  He will be greatly missed, including by the people who are going to purchase a gs500 in the future and need some advise. Hey brianrc , by chance in the parts collection is there a random piston size or where it came from or overall condition, not important. Want to use it on my cane. So worse condition, the better. Dont want to use something someone else could make use of on a bike

Hey, all. 2015 is around the corner and hopefully a trip to Vashon is coming up.
The idea of it being a fundraiser for cats (the care of his cats and cats in general) is just an idea. But I'd definitely throw some money in the hat and make the ride.

I'm hoping there is something like a "bike ride calendar" in place on the west coast so that riders in general will know there is a ride and what it's for? I'm in Georgia, 2,641 miles away, so I'm clueless how to help set up anything.

Guys, I really hope all of Patrick's collection is going to well deserved places.

I havent been on here in awhile because it's been difficult. Always a memory attached. I'm starting to work on my GS now with a frame swap that Patrick GAVE me. I remember him telling me, "just give me a call, we'll swap it out in a day". Always the optimist.

I've known Patrick since he first appeared on this forum. The dude could barely ride, Saw him dump his bike a few times when we went on Alki runs. He learned fast. He was like my favorite student, listened hard and silent. Then took the info and owned it. He was a by-the-book kind of guy, it always amazed me he still wanted to ride with a rogue like myself. But he was Patrick, ever present and flowingly generous. I've been around the world and never met someone like him.

I just found out about this. I sold my GS perhaps a month or so before Patrick passed. I got out of motorcycling for a while and spent time traveling to Europe. I've been looking for another GS and emailed someone on Craigslist who was looking for parts, telling him "if you join GS Twin there's a guy named Patrick who lives in West Seattle who basically has a whole Suzuki parts department in his garage dedicated to GS500s".

The guy wrote me back to let me know that Patrick had passed.

I met Patrick so that I could trade him my factory gel seat for a new wheel & tire combo. When I met up with him at his place we sort of hit it off and he encouraged me to upgrade my soggy forks. Never having done it before, he offered to show me. For the next two days I came over to his house and fixed up various parts of my bike interspersed with many long breaks, conversing about a slew of random topics.

When the bike was fixed I put her up for sale (along with my OTHER bike and car) to finance my travels. I had always intended on checking up on Patrick once I came back to Washington and got another bike (a Suzuki, of course) which it looks like I'm going to do TOMORROW. I'd literally be riding over to his place to show off my new bike and letting him test ride it if he were still with us.

What a lovely guy Patrick was. I wish I had seen him more and had a chance to go on rides with him. He *DID* let me ride the red bike once, and I saw him wipe the sweat from his brow when I brought it back all in once piece.

Does anyone know if ever managed to get the city to pave over that gravel driveway that was bugging him?

"Today was a good day. Any day I get to work on a bike and get it back on the road better than it was before is a good day, to me." -Patrick

If there's a memorial ride on the 26th, will someone please PM me? If I have a bike by then I will absolutely ride with you all.

It has been rough riding Flick over the past year because I can't look at any part of my bike and see something that Patrick hadn't given me. The lights, the brake reservoir, chain guard, heel guards, dammit even my chymler all came from him!

There is so much anger welled up inside because of stupid drivers! I encounter them daily and as an ex- EMT seen the results too many times. I really hope that person fullly knows what she deprived this world of. A friend, a mentor, a son, a brother, a co-worker he was so many things to all of us but most of all he was the one of the kindest and most compassionate men I had the honor of knowing.

8 months before Patrick's death my co-worker and wonderful friend went into the National Guard to be a chaplain healthiest person you would ever see. But, a day after his 30th birthday during a run he had a cardiac arrest and passed on in some aspects I was still in shock from that. Then about six months after Patrick's death one of my pastors (mid 30's) was diagnosed with stomach cancer he passed on a year ago Saturday.  To say I am soo sick of losing friends is an understatement.

I always assumed I would be gone before any of these guys with the heart failure and all but for some reason God thinks my job isn't finished here. These three men will always be in my heart and never be forgotten!

Mary

Patrick  - I never got over on that side of the country to meet you face to face. But you still helped me, and hundreds of others from across this country and around the world. Like many others I can point to multiple parts on my bike that came from you. Some for free. And I can list the countless projects that I would have thrown in the towel on, if it weren't for your help and advise.

Thank you for your time and generosity. Thank you for being who you were: a great guy.

Your mark will always be here with us. All to often the questions I search for have already been answered by you, even now. And every time I find that snip-it of information from you you live on.

Thank you

Ironically, I check this thread from time to time to enjoy the stories of how Patrick has touched others lives. In my life, he not only touched my heart, but, he also lives in my children's lives. My kids still love to watch his YouTube videos and every time I start one, my son yells out, "its daddy's friend". He gets so mad when I stop playing the videos for the night. I keep building and customising my GS and miss our lengthy chats. I was searching for those awesome chain guards tonight and realised that it was Patrick that had those too. Always the go to guy.

Patrick, where ever you are, thank you for touching the hearts and minds of us all. Even in your absence you touch the young hearts and minds of my children. Your teachings inspire them in their love and learning of the world of motorcycles.

Damn I just found out about this :/

I haven't been on this forum in a while but adidas helped me out on several occasions. He was so knowledgeable and so helpful. I never really knew him, and I haven't been around, but I miss him. I was hoping to catch up and never expected this.

Ride safe everyone  :dunno_white:

Just wanted to say that if it weren't for Patrick's videos, I wouldn't be wrenching my bike right now. Godspeed in the afterlife.

Still think of you often Pat.

He will definitely live on in our out of control collecting habits, controlled courteous riding, and true love for the Zuki's. If my GS is here when I do my next tire change I'll be engraving a memento trefoil into my fender brace :thumb:

I'm visiting home and my sister has a new kitten. She is anything but an angry cat.

I think the bike has a loose magneto bolt....which I probably would have realized sooner if I'd just heeded that one video that I watched and thought I'd never need....

Be well in the hereafter, AG.

I only joined GS twins a few days ago and yet Adidasguy's videos have helped me more than anyone or anything else in terms of repairing and taking apart the bike. Seemed like an amazing person and after reading the comments on here, it seems he was even more amazing than I had imagined. Two years after  passing away, he is still helping and gaining the admiration of people who have never met him. If that is not a sign of a great man, I don't know what is.

Rest in peace, from me and my GS.

I really like his video on pulling the bike onto the centre stand, never occurred to me to do it his way and whereas it used to be a massive heave ho or two, it's now easy.

I'm so glad you posted here, Aaron. I'm still catching up on GS news.

adidasguy/Patrick:
May your moccasins and motorcycle tires make happy tracks in heaven,
And may the rainbow always touch your shoulder and the shoulders of all who love you.

I tear up every time I look at this thread. It's hard to believe it's been over 3 years.

To think these bikes and forum, and the impact he had- that that's only a fraction of his life we experienced... just incredible.

Wrenching the bike and enjoying a cold one for you tonight, Patrick. Cheers 🍻

Bumping this one back up, hunting for a new to me GS has me reminiscing about my long chats milking Patrick for any GS knowledge I could get. Hope you're still riding and hoarding all the good GS bits mang!
