After a brutal brake job on my buddies Silverado, we finally started in on the GS at MIDNIGHT,

Tore apart the carbs, replaced the float bowl gasket, and the worn out o rings. Cleaned em up pretty good, and finally tried to start it at 4:00am this morning.
Of course, the battery was dead from a month of sitting.

Its on the charger now.

:(

It was a busy Easter weekend.

  • replaced rear tire

  • replaced the emblems on the crank case cover to the black ones

Took the motor out of the donor bike.  :woohoo: I removed the bolts last night and got stumped. After reading post and thinking about it, 5 minutes to finish the extraction with no help. Build thread shows how I did it.
now the donor bike is a skeleton. Will clean and spit polish the engine. Do valve adjustment before putting in Phenix. Oil change once in Phenix.
So here's the 2006 motor and bare donor frame.

Crashed it. Was funny watching it sliding down the road, following it on my back. Going to fix it over the next few weekends.

Quick around a corner. Hit gravel just after entry, was too busy looking for cars on road. Bike went sliding about 10m. Lesson learned, road conditions are just as important as traffic conditions. Also bit stressed out from other stuff in my life, so my mind wasn't completely on the ride.

On the up side, it will only cost me about $250 in parts to get it fixed. I'll need a new helmet because of the fall, but it's 2.5 years old and is about due for replacement anyway. Might get a helmet that can get built in speakers.

Pictures or it didn't happen. Them's the rules!

I might post some photos of the damaged parts later. But it isn't really that bad. Stator housing damaged, bar bent, clutch lever bent, side and center stand ground down a bit.

Ordered MosFet regulators for Phenix and Suzi. (Junior and Trey already had them). Ordered the new model that just came out the FH020AA - an upgrade from the FH012AA.
Also ordered the LED idiot light for battery status. I have one on Junior - nice to know charging, battery OK, low voltage or over voltage with a simple idiot LED light.

What do I do with a box full of OEM regulators?  :dunno_black:

Riveted chain onto Phenix. Decided to do it since the motor will go in within a week. And I'm loaning the chain rivet tool (those suckers are expensive!) to a board member. Nothing like the right tool to rivet a chain in under 2 minutes. Less time if it wasn't the first time I did it (yes, I read the instruction sheet.)
