Odds n Ends / Re: You can't tune a scooter, ...

FYI, for anyone who cares, the spark plug thing was contributing to the problem, but not the root cause. Finally the scooter died while running the other day and I discovered it still had loads of rust, coming off in flakes, in the tank. So I redid the on-bike tank cleaning job and I'm hoping it'll limp through springtime well enough that I can wait until it's 100+ degrees to tear it down further and do a proper tank cleaning.

In the meantime, I bought another basket case scooter, this time a '08 Vespa 250GTS. It was a salvage scooter with no key. I had to get a new lock cylinder and have the ECU re-mated to the new keyset (immobilizer) to get it to even start to turn on. Then with a bit of random debugging including discovering a spark plug that came off in two pieces, I got it running. It has been wrecked, so it needs bodywork, and also I found the front wheel was bent, so I have a new one ready to go on. And it's leaking coolant into the oil, so I have a water pump rebuild kit ready to go in, hopefully this weekend. But it starts instantly and runs pretty much perfectly, once I can get the cosmetics and random stuff sorted.

Now we have 4 scooters. Ugh!

What's the difference?  Why does it matter?

Almost took me a year to remember to do this challenge.  Ah well, better late than,... :dunno_black:

I'm thinking I'll end up playing this game solo but maybe somebody will get it.

Next challenge, your bike with a mechanic shop that has TRANSMISSION in the name of it.   :icon_mrgreen:

Yeah, if you have a good strong spark, I would start by opening the float bowl drain screw for that carb and see if gas comes out to confirm that fuel is getting into the carb at all. If it passes that test then you can start breaking down the carb for cleaning.

I have a 2005 gsxr good for parts and a 2001 gs500 that's road worthy. What is my compatibility like and is it worth the effort to swap forks and rear? I've sifted through the forums, but a lot of links are broken as well as imbedded pictures. Thank you!

Got an issue, I rode 20 miles yesterday and no issues. I decided to pressure wash my bike today. After the wash it would not start. I jumper the starter solenoid and it started but, it idles rough and when I give it throttle it spits and sputters and dies. I am new to the page.

If one cylinder isn't getting warm it isn't burning fuel...
Checking the spark plug condition would be where I would start.

Here is a vid of a Honda mechanic replacing the sight glass on a project bike. I like how it was his first time doing this and he wasn't happy with his first attempt.

Hope it helps.
