oooooo yeah that GS looks like it could shine... a good wash and detail with some wax on the tank...

agreed about the clutch cable... probably turn the idle screw to get that idle speed down too...

I like these bikes in yellow and that seat is certainly a bonus!!  :star:

I will be taking a look at this sometime this weekend:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/mcy/5843217360.html

I already have my 2000 GS500E, but my girlfriend had her eye on mine if I got another bike. This seems low risk. If I get it and she doesn't like riding, it should be easy to sell one of them for basically what I paid. I was looking at a guy in town selling an SV650 as my next bike, and I know a guy selling a dumped Yamaha GTS 1000 that could make a cool fixer-upper, but both are more expensive.

I don't know what "runs fine with TLC" means, but my guess is "Bring a trailer"

First thing would be to sell the F-style front end and get a headlight. I would rather it be naked.

V-twin!

couldn't help it.

Half of the cars on CL in Austin say they have a "V4" engine.

Ah! Big Rich!  You've always got something interesting to say. I have a GR650 Motor but have been thinking about finding a second Motor either as a source of spares or, if it were fresher than the one I have, use it for a project. I have taken measurements of both motor and a GS 450 frame and it will definitely fit. The 450 is 6" shorter, 3" lower and 2" narrower. From pictures I've seen it looks like there's more clearance than the GS500 but I don't have one hear to compare. I have firearms for a potential trade. I have a trade-school certificate (two year program) as a gunsmith and I mention that because I never buy sell or trade junk.

This has been for sale since before I bought my GS last February. I had inquired about it, but he never got around to sending me any photos (all he had posted on the CL ad at the time was the stock photo). I was looking for something pretty much ready to ride, and I wasn't going to drive a couple hours to look at a bike that the seller couldn't even send me pictures of.

Fast forward almost a year and a half...for $800 it sounds like a pretty good deal on a complete bike. If I had the time, money, and space for a project, I'd be really tempted. It sure could make for a nice looking bike given some TLC...

Yeah, I really like it. I'd have a hard time convincing my wife I need another bike, though.
