Title: Tattoos!
Post by: rscottlow on May 18, 2017, 06:35:04 PM
Who around here has tattoos? What do you have, and what does it mean to you? I mean we're all badass bikers, right? Let's see 'em!

I'll go first - I have two, but several more ideas that I'll get done eventually. My first is a cross with blue and pink wings on my left forearm. My wife and I both went and got tattoos to memorialize the baby we miscarried.

The second is a half sleeve at the top of my right arm. It's a black bear in front of a waterfall surrounded by spruce trees and forget-me-nots (also blue and pink, and for the same reason I got the cross). I got the black bear because it's my wife's favorite animal.

I'm going to get the inside of my arm finished with a fox, which is my son's favorite animal (he has liked them since he was really little, before that stupid song came out). I'll probably get that done this summer. I'm also going to get one for my daughter, but I'm not sure what yet. Lastly, I want something Cincinnati themed, but I also haven't decided what exactly. I've also always thought about getting sparrows tattooed on my chest, but that probably won't be for a while...I need to get into better shape first.

Oh this has the potential to be an awesome thread! I don't have any tats but people have often told me I should be a tat artist because of my artistic abilities... but that just never really appealed to me.

I always like checking out the ink people have though :thumb:

Very sorry to hear about your precious baby rscottlow  <3

Always wanted one, still do, never knew what, still don't  :dunno_black:

My sister has 3.  She has an origami crane on her foot to commemorate her cancer survival, a crab on her back flanked by the constellation for Pisces (hers and her daughters zodiacs), and a half sleeve of peace lilies.  Our mother bought her a peace lily plant the day she was born and then one for the birth of her daughter.  So she has 3 in full bloom and one budding (mother, self, daughter, potential grandchild).

I wish I had something so meaningful to ink.  I was never in the military, I was never that close with my family, I don't have incredibly strong ties to my home town, I don't have kids (not even a GF currently), and although I might say motorcycles are my life I can't think of any motorcycle related tattoos that aren't a permanent advertisement nor cliche's...

So...  :dunno_black:

Thanks! It was a pretty traumatic experience. I had always talked about getting one, but nothing had ever meant enough to me to go get it put onto my skin permanently. I think my wife felt the same way, so after that happened, we had a good reason to go get tattoos.

I did see that there was another thread like this a few years ago, but it didn't get much response. We'll see what happens...

That's the hardest decision. I think I was 26 when I got my first one, but had wanted one since I was 18. The sparrows were my first idea, but I just could never pull the trigger since they really don't have all that much meaning to me and I've always thought them to be a bit cliche. Now that I've got a couple though, it's not as big of a decision. I do still plan on getting them eventually - probably one in purple and one in green (for my wife and I) carrying banners in their beaks with our kids names. My other ideas will come first though.

I agree with you about the motorcycle tat. I like the 1N23456 tattoos, but it's been done.  It might be worth it to check with a couple local artists and see if they have any cool ideas. I think what I'm going to do with my Cincinnati tattoo is to go see my artist and talk to him about what he thinks would be cool/fun to tattoo. The other tattooist at the shop I go to did the Tyler Davidson fountain (that's the big fountain on Fountain Square in the middle of downtown Cincy) for one of his clients, which I think is really cool. I don't want to take something that's already been done though, especially when I'm getting custom artwork done.

In all seriousness though thanks for sharing your stories, Scott.

I've played around with the idea of getting a tattoo but I haven't really ever had an idea for one that I felt really strongly about.

My girlfriend has a cameo of an anchor on her back which she got after her dad passed away. I didn't really know her father for long enough or well enough to really explain the significance of the anchor. He was basically bedridden for much of short time I knew him, and from what I understand, he was a very different person before he got sick. Her relationship with her father was complicated, but her tattoo is one of the ways she chose to commemorate him. She's talked about getting more tattoos but she hasn't decided on anything either.

Just one atom. A medic alert bracelet saying "diabetic" on MY right forearm. The only time my doctor has EVER approved a tat. Got tired of losing the bracelets. If I lose this one, 1 of 2 things has happened either I lost my arm or did A beets was cured lol.
Will update post with a pic ASAP.

That's a great idea. Fortunately I don't have any major medical issues that I need medical professionals to be aware of in the event of an emergency.

I've thought of getting my wedding band tattooed on my ring finger, but since I work in an office and wear my ring all the time there's not much of a point. It's a better idea for those who can't wear jewelry in their line of work, or prefer not to wear a ring.

I have 2. On my right calf I have script; "Adversity doesn't deal with character; adversity reveals character." The first letter of the phrase is decorated like an old book, and the tattoo artist incorporated an infinity into the tail of the 2nd why in the script. I got it when I was 18 and my girlfriend of 6 years broke up with me.

2nd tattoo is a black and grey head of a rose on the inside of my left bicep. I got that one to represent my mothers grandmother, she was alive when I had it. When my mum fell pregnant with me she was separated from my father. Her mother and step father wouldn't support her and advised her to terminate the pregnancy, along with the rest of her family and my fathers family too. My grandnan took my mother in and supported her, protected her...protected me. My parents married after I was born but if my mother didn't have my grandnan I might not have been born, my life would have been very different if I had been.

Great stories behind those, Chris. Do you have photos? Are you planning to get any more?
