Hi all, as the title states I'm new to the forum and look forward to getting to know everyone.

I have recently bought a 1998 gs500e as my 1st bike

While waiting to take my motorbike test I have done the following over the past 2 weeks.

- re sprayed tank black with blue cosmic pearl and metallic flakes
- re sprayed forks
- resprayed wheels and polished lips
- cut down front mudguard for a sleeker look
- replaced gauge lights with blue led's
- re sprayed rear of frame
- cut down sub frame
- converted the seat to a single and re upholstered
- installed shorter clear led signals
- installed rear led brake
- installed dominator front headlights
-installed custom rubber rear mud guard
- moved electric components
- moved seat lock
- removed rear pegs

As I said I am new to this and have only owned a bike for 2 weeks so please try to bear with some noob questions.

Thanks, James

One very big problem with this post. WE NEED PICTURES. haha. Seriously though sounds good. And the people here are fantastic. Just be sure to search around a little first before posting a thread!!

I'm not usually a fan of the "cut down" bikes but I have to say, your bike has a nice clean look to it.  Great Job.  It looks like a fun ride.

Your paint work looks very smooth.  I like your wheel paint job as well.  Care to give any tips on your process?

You pulled off the bobbed look as good as you can.  I'm just not a fan of it at all.  It's a downgrade in functionality and looks if you ask me, but hey, that's the beauty of having your own bike.  You don't have to ask anybody!  8) :thumb:

+1 to the paint tips.

Do you have a big ole compressor and a sprayer? That looks way too good for a spray can

Nice bit of kit!
Is the brake line fitment (banjo size) the same as the OEM gs500e?

wakey86

yep the original brake line and banjo fits

- installed new grips
- installed carbon fibre bar ends ( had to drill/tap weight in handlebars to install )

- bought new shoei xr1000

Cool! I might pull a copy cat on you on this one... (see it as a compliment ;) )

Wicked helmet btw!

wakey86

took her out for a spin today loving the new levers and dash, also the carbon wrap on the tree resists sctatches better than when i painted it

Cerberus73

Just bought a set of perch and levers like those for my Streetfighter/tourer (yep i know a strange mix!) project I'm working on. how is the "feel" with that master cylinder compared to OEM? is it nice and progressive, or wooden as hell? how is the clutch feel, and does it take the standard GS clutch cable?

wakey86

There is a nice progressive feel with the brakes.

And the original clutch cable bolts straight in

wakey86

Hey guys I'm about to pull the trigger on this sv650 rear shock.

Does it look like the right one for the direct swap?

I know the white ones don't fit, the linkages just seem different.

Thanks in advance, james
