Hahah cheers guys! (and gal of course :D)

As of last night I have a chassis ground and the 12V side has a connection to the fuse box so in theory I could connect a battery and turn the ignition switch on... not that it would do much but turn the main relay on and off.

Pretty much figured out the routing for the control blocks which funnily enough is pretty much stock Kat routing, so they're next on the list. Then I really will be able to hook up power and at least turn the indicators, parking light, and headlight on.

Ooh nice! Let's see how she works out  :thumb:

Had to go over the wiring layout for the left control block last night before putting the plugs on... turns out for some reason when I initially figured out which wires go to which switches I'd written the colours down wrong. Eg. I had black listed... but there is no black wire  :technical:

Anyway, sorted that, had to give it a squirt of contact cleaner as the left indicator didn't want to switch on after sitting so long, and it now has a pair of plugs ready for the harness.

I'll get pic's after getting everything else terminated and the right control block sorted, it's really close to that hooking a battery up point for testing  :thumb:

Not sure how soon that will be though, this weekend is going to be a clean-and-sort-a-thon getting ready for the pest control dude who's in next week. It's getting to that creepy crawly time of year and they need a good spray.

Nice!

I dug out my old crappy battery last night, had to top the water up so no idea how well it will hold a charge, but I'll need something to test the Kat harness with.

I did however get to hook up my little variable power supply after doing some more terminations. It won't have enough grunt to run lights or indicators but it can at least turn relays on and off. So far I can turn the ignition on and the main relay will turn on, and I can do the same for high/low beam and the horn, all relays clicking as expected.

I think I only have to hook up the indicators to the left control block and then I can move to the right side of the harness which doesn't have a lot on it, and then the rear which is just indicators and brake/tail light.

I also think I've had yet another change of mind as to which Acewell unit to use...

True that! Definitely an option if the old battery doesn't hold charge long enough for the 5 minutes I need it to.

Usually Saturday night is my night off the bike but had to go do more... made some minor adjustments to match the Acewell dash I'm going to use (ACE-3701 https://www.s3performance.com.au/acewell-3701-digital-speedometer-tachometer-with-p/ACE-3701), so all that's left for the left control block is the left indicator and parking light connections.

Then it'll be onto the right side of the loom and right control block (which is just the kill switch and start button), then the rear lights/indicators.

Today is garage tidiness day, must get it neatened before pest control dude this Friday. If time allows it'll be more wiring fun...

Apparently I've gotten slack with pic's... but I will get some soon I promise.

Garage is tidy, and I even got time to gently sit the crankcases in the frame so I can work out the length of the starter, ground, oil pressure, and neutral wires for the motor  :thumb:

The left control block is all hooked up now as well.

If time is on my side, this week should see the harness pretty much sorted, or at least as much as I can do until I get the missing bits like horn, Acewell, etc.

Looks likely I'll end up with another dodgy battery to use for testing the harness. I've had to bump start the 450 the last couple of days after she wouldn't crank Monday morning. Found the negative terminal a touch loose yesterday but tightening made no difference  :technical:

Going to try a jump off the car this morning to prove it's the battery and not the starter motor... I really don't fancy having to take the cam chain tensioner off to get the starter motor out, such a PITA design that!

At least I have a nice slope on the driveway at home and there's a nice slope in the bike park at work...  :icon_confused:

Don't think I'll bother spending the extra $$ for another Motobatt this time, has lasted just about the same time as the cheapy lead acid one I had originally which was significantly cheaper.

question my friend, the lead acid unit can you add distilled water to it if low? also always the option of having a SMALL set of jumper cables in a pack. they pack well.

New battery yesterday so I'm all sorted  :thumb:

I'll use the Motobatt for the Kat wiring testing now and ditch the old lead acid. Incidentally it turns out the Motobatt's are cheap crap they charge a lot for, not made to a very good standard and tend to die unexpectedly. I've gone back to a good old lead acid again this time.

Hooked the Motobatt up last night, headlight actually works  :thumb:

Picking up my newly upholstered solo seat for the 450 today and hopefully on the weekend will finish up the indicator mounts for the Kat and maybe the harness so I can move on to something else...

Pete, ive got a SSB Powersports battery... My gs has sat in the shed for 3? years now... Still good charge in it and it cranks well!... Only test it every 5 or 6 months!... The carbs are dirty so it wont run... Its not receiving charge at all!...
They are good batteries!

Nice Janxy! I've ended up with a bit of Katana in the 450... it's a Katana branded battery  :icon_lol:

Picked up my seat yesterday which is awesome, and got my bike converted to single seat rego at Qld Transport on the way back  :thumb:

As a bonus, my spare clutch cable, bungey cords, tool bag, and rag are now stored in the compartment under the pillion seat meaning my top box has more spare room and no more tool bag banging the tail light and indicator wires in the tail piece  :woohoo:

I was going to christen the seat with a good ride today but I have a somewhat embarrassing injury from go karting which is making riding difficult and the trip yesterday was quite a PITA... quite literally. Acceleration is eye watering at present so all the red lights were a nightmare.

Hopefully this awesome weather we're having holds up for next weekend when I should be right to ride.

I'll get a pic this weekend some time of the new seat and storage under it as well.

With any luck I'll also get some good Kat progress I hope!
