Hey guys wondering how you plugged up your tank to remove rust and what you used.
Do you take off the gas cap fully to protect the gasket? how do you plug the hole for the petcock?
My gas cap is sticky/corroded and doesnt want to open up, how do I go about cleaning that as well?

I used a gas tank sealer kit from Eastwood Company, https://www.eastwood.com/gas-tank-sealer-kits-eastwood-gas-tank-sealer.html which specifies Muriatic acid for the actual rust removal step.  To plug the tank I used tape.  It was a while ago so I'm not certain but the only choices I would have used are masking tape, electrical tape, or duct tape, in that order of preference.

The gas cap was removed for this as well.  If the cap is stuck, soaking the keyhole with penetrating oil should eventually get it open.  The key may need to be exercised periodically to help the oil penetrate into the locking tabs.  Be careful not to break the key.  If the cap still cannot be opened, drilling throught the entire cap might be required.

Once the cap is opened, it can be disassembled and greased.  I recommend a fuel resistant grease https://m.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/ezturnlube.php.
