Title: Quietest exhaust for a rejet?
Post by: richard on June 22, 2004, 01:56:37 PM
Having just replaced the engine on my bike, I guess I'm feeling A. a little more adventuresome, and B. more confident in where parts relevant to a rejet are.

What exhaust would work best if I A. want to do a full rejet, and B. want the bike to still be as quiet as possible?  I don't care if it's loud at, say, freeway speeds, but when I'm driving around neighborhoods I don't want to wake the neighbors up. :guns:

Any ideas?  Also, how much would I expect to pay for such a thing?

Well since you only have four real options unless you want to weld and experiment or pay crazy prices for European shipping. You can buy a Vance and hines full system new. This site has sound bytes.

Otherwise its a Cobra slip-on not as great of a performance boost but sound better than stock without being loud. They have the R and S version. The one without the snout is louder, I believe.

You may find a old used Yosh which is supposed to give the best performance but will probably be the loudest of the lot.

hindle also makes an exhaust for the gs, and i don't believe shipping is all that bad, and you might even be able to pick one up close by on ebay.  i've heard they give an ok power boost, and arn't all that loud, so maybe look into those.

I forgot the Hindle.   I think J-Lo said his was real loud but worth a search.

i heard a hindle on an 89 race bike. the motor was stock except a rejet. the hindle made it sound like a real bike. i was ready to trade him my v&h right there on the spot. if i could do it all over again i would get the hindle. it looks good too.

Quiet at low speed, one of those yosh ovals. Werase had it on his street bike. Now maybe chupacabrah can post about it. They are louder at highway speeds but under 3-4K its fairly quiet.
Cool.

Yeah don't go with a VH unless you want obnoxious loudness.

Granted,  it's great for power and really opens the bike up, but when you want to take the bike out  for a midnight ride dow the main drag in town, well.  the neighbors will get cranky.
