I found these instruction in the service manual for my VFR and thought they may be useful for others when setting the pilot screw on the GS.
Before you start:
1. Make sure the carbs are synchronised
2. If available fit and use a tachometer with 50 rpm graduations
Steps:
1: Turn the pilot screw clockwise until it seats lightly and then back it out 2 1/2 turns. CAUTION - damage to the pilot screw seat will occur if the pilot screw is tightened against the seat :o
2: Warm the engine to operating temperature.
3: Adjust the idle speed to set the rpm at the specified idle rpm for the GS (I think this is 1200rpm)
4: Turn each pilot screw 1/2 turn out from the initial setting
5: If the idle speed increases by 50 rpm or more, turn each pilot screw out by succesive 1/2 turn increments until engine speed doesn't increase.
6: Adjust the idle speed back to 1200rpm
7: Turn the No.1 carburetor pilot screw in until the engine speed drops 50 rpm
8: Turn the No1 carburetor pilot screw out 1/4 of a turn from the posistion obtained in step 7.
9: Ajust the idle speed to 1200rpm
9: Perform steps 7, 8, 9 for the No2 carburetor
Go out and ride :)

There is somehting wacky about the VFR... I remember talking to this guy a couple years ago, its a little foggy, but the procedure is actually going to work on the VFR only...
