You can purchase risers. You can get ones that bring the bars up 1 inch, maybe 1 and a half. The lines don't have much play in them.

Kerry has some of the risers, and they work really well.
Another (cheaper) alternative is to find some extras of the caps that hold your handlebars on, then stack them with the bottom cap upside down so that the top clamps down and makes a circle just like the stock, but 1" or so higher.
I have done that, and it works well for me.
we'll try some ASCII art to illustrate my point... see how it works. :mrgreen:
This is how it is:
=== <-- one cap

^^^ <-- base on bike
This is how you change it by adding an extra cap:
=== <-- one cap

=== <-- another cap

^^^ <-- base on bike
when I have my camera again next week maybe I'll take pics of my bike for a better illustration. =]
Good Idea and clever pictures,
I hope to move my bars back too. I looked at some of the risers but new bars are acually cheeper, and give me a greater change. I don't want to have redo my break line.

redoing your brake line isn't as difficult as it sounds, i had to do it when i changed the clipons on my speed four over to renthals, i was avoiding it, but when i did it it really wasn't that bad, especially considering the gs only has one caliper, instead of the speed fours 2 that i had to mess with, but yeah, instead of pulling out the forks, try just pulling the throttle and brake lever off the bars, and just run them where you want them to, and then put them back
What do the 1 and half inch risers cost?
The risers I looked at were about 110 but different bars are only about half that.
I got everything rerouted except for the brake line. Much easier than pulling out the forks.
Thanks.
Sorry if I'm late to the party.
Here are my GenMar risers. You can read more at http://www.zianet.com/genmar/

Yes, they're expensive, but I got mine used at half-price. :thumb:
As for the alternate risers that richard sketched, see the original How-To link in the thread $8. Bar Risers - How To (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4505).
EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net
Kerry,
Looks like all the cables wires and things are still routed as original. I couldn't tell for sure from the picture .
I'm looking at these bars http://bikebandit.com/partsbandit/product.asp?pf_id=2391705&dept_id=768041 They should be 1.5" up and 2.5 back.
I can't tell if they are 7/8" diamater.
I'm worried about the wire that goes from the left side to the head light. It looks pretty short. Every thing else should work with rerouting.

Are you talking about my bike or
oldsport's? On my bike I went ahead and routed the throttle and choke cables to the outside of the fork tubes. (They just kinda hang out in the breeze.)
