Hi, today I purchased a 95 gs500 from gstwins very own jgary, heck of a nice guy
after the 150 mile ride home i noticed a few things
the bars feel like ape hangers compared to my 02 zx6r
He had the cheap riser things added which raise the bars further than stock but these things definatly need to drop
the bike is for my gf who has only riden my bike around a parking lot
secondly the windblast is horrendous with any fairings, my neck and back are killing me
and finally the previous owner install progressivce springs and he was alot bigger than me and the front end is way to stiff for my weight
a few times the front tire came completly off the ground going over bumps
i also experienced some slight headshake whic has never happened on my 6r
I guess that is all, I look forward to modding this bike and the huge smile on my girls face when she sees it

I'll take the "cheap riser things" off your ahnds if you are going to remove them

here's what i can offer for advice for fixing those problems:
as for the bars, i highly recommend suburban machinery bars, or srinath's (they're basically the same). they're a lot lower, and make you feel more in control of the bike, especially in corners (in my opinion).
as for the windscreen, yeah, the bike needs one. i really like the givi a750 i have on my bike. i don't really like the touring size windshields you can get, but even the smaller sportier ones such as the givi help a lot.
for the suspension, if the front is too stiff, you really don't want to go back to stock. check the spacers, and see what size spacers he has in there, if he was a bigger guy he might have put in larger than necessary spacers. also, try to find out with weight oil he put in the forks. he might have moved up to 15, and you could change that back down to 10. also, the oil level might be a factor. so check all those things. also, it might be that the rear was loose in comparison, try checking into kat rear shocks, they add a lot to the bike. good luck with it.
evil scooby, itll have to wait untill my gf gives it a test ride because after all i did buy the bike for her
if she decides she wants lower bars just toss some shipping money my way and they are yours
I put in 15w oil when I changed the springs, also did PVC spacers. I have the original screws (I think) that I replaced with the handlebar raisers. Also, if you want to change out the progressive springs, I have the originals & spacers. Have fun!
John.
