Title: Fuel Select
Post by: GregoryTheriault on June 27, 2004, 08:06:14 AM
I have no manual, and the haynes doesn't get specific about stuff like this. I ran outa gas the other night on the way home....DRAG.  I had been filling it often enough I guess, now I was riding at the time with the petcock arrow up I believe, which says PRI.  To the left says reserve and down says ON.  There's no Off position?

Arrow should be where for the main tank?

Thanks guys.

Leave it in the "ON" position. It is vacuum actuated. No fuel will flow with it in this position unless the engine is running.

"RES" (reserve) is the same, but picks up fuel a little lower in the tank. Only use this after you have ran out of gas in the "ON" position. Fill tank as soon as possible and remember to switch back to "ON".

"PRI" (prime) lets the fuel travel down to the carburetor without the engine running. It's gravity fed. Only use this if you run out of gas in the float bowl of the carburetor. Set it to PRI for a few seconds and put it back to ON. Leaving it in the PRI position could cause an overflow of fuel if the carb starts leaking.
