Okay, so I decided to ride up to Thunder in the Valley this morning with my buddy, and being a good motorcyclist, I figured that I should give the bike a once over before heading out on such a long ride. It's not long by experienced rider standards, but for me, 50 miles(each way) of interstate is very, very long.
I've had the bike for about seven weeks, and just after I got it, I checked the oil, because I knew that running on low oil could be the end of the engine. What I didn't check was the tires. Until today. I stuck a tire gauge on them, and both of them had less than 20 PSI. I promptly crapped myself. So, the first stop on this road trip was an air pump. I stuffed some air into the tires and pulled out of the parking lot. It was immediately obvious that something had drastically changed on the bike. It was a completely different machine. Even with those stock tires on the bike, having some air in them made a big difference. So, another lesson learned. The bike is due for an inspection soon, so I'll probably replace the tires when she goes in for that.
I can't believe how much of a difference proper tire inflation makes. Uh, is there anything else stupid that I might be overlooking? :roll:

Perhaps you should carry an air pressure gage-- and a change of underwear ;). Don't forget the other fluids-- master cylinders and the battery electrolyte. :cheers:

Thunder in the Valley was fun. I don't really have anything to compare it to because it was my first motorcycle rally, and I went up on Sunday morning when things were winding down, but I enjoyed it, and I'll go back next year when it is a little busier. There was a lot to look at. The bikes with V-8s in them were amazing, to me anyway. Not that I'll be dropping $35K on bike any time soon. I guess jake42's brother generated quite a bit of excitement by getting married in the middle of the thing. Apparently Mrs. jake42's brother wasn't supposed to know anything about it. Also, I had an excellent pork saussage sandwich with onions and peppers for lunch, and basically, if you can get a pork saussage like that, it's a great day.

Well, EvilScooby, that pretty much settles it. We both ride the GS500. We both love greasy pork sausage sandwiches. If I were a woman, I'd pretty much offer to have your baby.
