I have a silvania silverstar 9003 bulb. It's designed to give a whiter light, but not in a ricer way. The bulb definitely made a difference IMO, but it was a lil pricey at ~$20.

Silverstars kick ass.  Plain and simple. :thumb:

silver stars and piaa's are the only bulbs that actually produce more light, not just blue-er light.

The Sylvania Silverstar, H4 bulb, does indeed do the trick.  It's sold as a single bulb (many of the bulbs in this series are sold as a pair), available from most discount auto parts retailers.  I found the improvement quite striking.  While you're at it, be sure the headlamp is aimed correctly with respect to the vertical and horizontal adjustments.

Ditto on the silverstar.  The only way to go.  Also try searchin the web on aligning your headlight properly.  One of the MC mags did an article on it a couple months ago, I'll see if I can locate it in my heap of back issues.  My light was way low when I bought it, but is drastically better now.

Here is what the Haynes manual suggests, in preparation for the MOT (whatever that stands for) which is administered in the UK.  I imagine the same alignment would work in the States, only you would want to aim the light to the RIGHT of the vertical line rather than the LEFT:

I'm looking forward to getting details from the motorcycle mag writeup!

MOT stands for "Ministry of Transport".  It's the government department in the UK that looks after all things to do with roads and vehicles.  The MOT test is an annual test of vehicle road-worthiness.  Any vehicle over 3 years old and used on the public highway has to pass it each year.  Major things that get checked are brakes, lights, horn, suspension, tyres and condition of the chassis.
