Title: New rider/owner issues
Post by: cay on July 08, 2004, 11:38:28 AM
Hi all,

As of last night I became the proud owner of a 2002 GS500 with just under 3000 miles -- and as of this morning, it's registered and legal.  This is my first bike and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Are there any retailers that folks here prefer to deal with (for GS500 mods, accessories, and gear)?  Any noteworthy online resources?  I'm having some trouble finding bike-specific stuff.

thanks,

Cay

Start with getting gear first. Cycle Gear comes to mind. Go to their website and lookup store locations for one near you.

nicest people possible. best prices possible. it's all new stuff (don't be confused by the name). if you've got any fitament questions, call them. they're super helpful too. i got everything except my helmet from them.

//www.helmetharbor.com is where i got my helmet. free shipping. go to a local shop tho first, and try stuff on. ask them questions. walk around the store with the helmet on for 10+ mins to make sure your face/head doesn't get fatigued.

Try  www.motoxoutlet.com
They have the cheapest Joe Rocket stuff I've ever seen.

Look in the phonebook under Motorcycles? Should be a load of listings.

For gear, you really want to try stuff on to make sure it fits properly. Expecially helmets. And, loose fitting clothing will tear up your skin just as well as asphalt. I know.

Whoa, thanks for all the responses folks -- I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment (it all went into buying, insuring and registering my bike) but gear is definitely at the top of my list.   Above food.  I'll definitely look into all the sites mentioned above.

I've gone a couple of weeks without eating at Mc Donald's, so I could get parts.
