Title: Quirky '04
Post by: EDub on July 10, 2004, 10:13:51 PM
hey all,
i gotsa question for you gs guru's out there.  I recently bought an '04 gs500f.  As of right now it has about 400 miles on it.  Heres my problem.  As of late it has not been idling properly, has delayed throttle response, and has a noticable loss of power.

I have kept the rpm's under 5000 with the occasional full throttle burn, but have not in the least bit, over worked the engine.  I first noticed it when my bike started to gurgle going down the highway.  I though it was because i was running out of fuel so i switched it to reserve and kept riding for another 5 miles or so.  When i stopped to check the gas i saw that i had plenty.  Ever since this it has been real quirky.  I thought that maybe since i have actually been obeying the breaking period for the most part, keeping it under 5k that maybe my spark plugs are beginning to foul.  Hehe the folks at suzuki prolly think most of us pay no attention to that breakin stuff.  But i will check the spark plugs tomorrow.  Gatta take the fairings of unless i can find a smaller ratchet, Ughhh.

Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions on what else the problem could be i would greatly appreciate the advise

Have you put fuel fuel in it since??
It can look like there is plenty of fuel, but your actually out.

Its still under warrenty, take it back to the dealer.

Some bikes really do need to be adjusted after breakin. Vavle check, cylinder stud torque, and lots of fasteners can work loose after the first couple of hundred miles, especally if it were put together right before siesta on a Friday (The GS500Fs are made in Spain).  ;)
